I'm looking into getting new tires for my 17s. They have to be 215/50/17, I found the Fuzion HRi's on Tirerack for pretty cheap, like 76 a piece. Anyone have experience with these tires, would they be a little step up from my kuhmo ecsta 711s. I need something with a little more rain performance then those but I'll still be using stock tires for the dead of winter. If anyone has other ideas for a 3 season 215/50/17 tire in the same price range, feel free to let me know. Thanks!
I would just keep the ecstas but they are bare after about 25000 miles, so I'm looking for something a lil different now.
I reccomend you either get the 225/45/17 to keep the speedo the same as it would be stock. If not do what I did and get some 235/40/17 and then your speedo is only of 2 mph. and they still fit but i had to get some 3 mm spacers for the wheels just in case so they dont rub, and if you do anything i would reccomend you go with the zri's over the hri's. They have a lot better traction and the Hri's are ugly. I saw them and compared them to the zri's and i changed my mind at the tire place. i got all 4 of my tires mounted and balanced on my 17's with chrome valve stems, 20 lugs, 20 studs, 4 3mm spacers all the way around, all for $460. I know the guy that runs the place and he gave me a heck of a deal.
Hmm, I got my cavy with the razzi kit and rims from the dealer that way new. It had the 17s with 215/50/17 kuhmo tires from the dealer. Does this mean my speedo is off a little bit?? Also, if I keep my rims dont I need to get the same tire size as the kuhmos that are on them right now?
I dont remember where it is at on this website but there is a tire calculator that someone posts. i think its wild weasel or something. but you enter your tire size on there and the new size and it tells you how far the speedo is going to be off. Stock 15: rims are 196/65/R15 and i went with 235/40/R17 with my 17's and the size that would have made my speedo the same is the 225/45/R17. And trust me go with the Zri's. A lot better traction compared to the Hri's. And from the dealer im sure they calibrated the speedometer, dont quote me on that but i dont know about the dealer rice packages and what they do to them. Im sure they cant sell a car with a malfunctioning speedo. When i bought my tires he told me that if i went up in the first number and down in the second it would be REALLY close to my normal tire size. So in yours it may be right if you went down in the first and up in the second. AIM me if you have more questions. As far as getting the same size, you can get any size tires you want. you have to make sure they fit but you dont have to get the 215/50/R17
The Zri tires seem to have about the same reviews as the HRi's. Plus the Hri's are all season, well they would at least work in the snow a little. And as far as I see, they are cheaper too.
Thats just it they are cheaper, not as good, they may be all season but i only use my rims in the summer and take them off in the winter cause of the salt so i need summer performance tires, i also use my Zri's for autocross now since i sold my autox tires. they hold up real well. you money your choice but i wouldn use my rims in the winter at all so i dont need snow traction thats what my 15's are for
^^ Well I ended up going with Falkens instead, I got the falken Ziex Zr-512s. Can't wait till spring so I can get them mounted. Anyone have comments on the Falkens?
i hear they are a soft tire and wear out fast. was gonna go with them too but heard that. Nice tires though.
treadwear is rated at 360, I thought that was decent, my kuhmo 711s went bare real fast, but i think they were rated at 280
Wanted to know any other thoughts, I just bought HRis because of their good tread wear rating. Anything over 400 is good and for 60$ each you cant beat it. I have drag radials so no need for crazy tires. Anyone get good mileage out of these?

i have a set stacked im my living room
like i said back in the day, the zri's are worth the extra dollar for what you are getting. plus not that it matters a whole lot but the tread pattern on the hri's are kinda ugly.
personal i use to deal with tire rack and i was recommend by a personal friend to get the Zri over the Hri, just dont chirp your tires often cause they will get bubbles cause the sides was arent as strong as the could be.
those others will wear fast.. good luck bish.. lol

GOT ECOTEC?
215/50/17 is too big. like said hopefully you went w/ a 215/45/17 or a 225/45/17
I put Ziex ZE-512's on my 95' 740i. Falken makes a great tire for the price. I can name a bunch of brands that not only were about double the price, didn't hold up as well and had to be replaced every two years. When I got rid of the car it had 30,000 miles of wear on the tires and they still had half tread life, although they looked like they were starting to dry rot in between the treads, same as on my OEM Eagle RSA's.
Keep this is mind: I rotated my tires and aligned the front end every six thousand miles to get these tires to last this long (Firestone lifetime alignment). And I kept them at a little less than factory inflation specs (39 psi) in the rear. Anal, yes, but this level of maintenance also allowed my father to keep his OEM Michelins on his 2005 2500 Ram for more than 113,000 miles (towing almost the entire time).
