re-seat tire bead?
Saturday, November 19, 2005 3:35 PM
Hey guys, i just picked up a set of 03-04 ls sport chrome 16" wheels with factory goodyear eagle rs-a's from a scrap yard for $300. the rims are in mint shape, not a single scratch, dent, scrape, or curb mark and all the tires are matching with about 90% life left. they were all already mounted but one of the tires has a slow leak on the inside of the rim right at the bead and it goes around about half the bead of the tire. when i go to get them balanced, would they be able to unmount the tire, then remount it and have that bead seat up right? i'm just curious if that is possible otherwise i'll just throw on a new tire. the tires all appear to be in excellent shape, no scuffs, cuts, or anything. no dry rot, nothing.

any advice or is this possible to repair?

I don't know about the tire problems but you should go make friends with your junkyard owner - I could have got those for prolly 150-200.
Sorry to not answer ur question though.

i know i could have done better, but still, i'm not complaining. i needed new tires anyways so either way i was to spend the money somehow and just tires installed would cost that much if not more. oh well.

i could have gotten them for 40 bucks......i think my local junkyard is one of hte cheapest in the country

but i think you can just remove and reinstall the tire to fix bead issues

just try airing it up...If that does not work, push on the wheel on the side that is not seated all the way.......

almost all the time when a bead is leaking, that means there is corrosion on the inside of the rim by the bead. The tire shop will know what they are doing, well they should. Dont be worried, it happens on quite a few rims where I work. All taht needs to be done is get rid of the corrosion, put a little bead sealer on it, and it should cure the leak.
