A quick question..
Thursday, September 01, 2005 10:22 AM
The Z24 currently rides on 15" factory rims and the tyres have a profile of 65.

it is lowered and i want to get a set of wheels with the same rolling distance as they'll be the same size and the wheel gap will be the same.

so i went to a garage and the old guy said that 17" wheels with either 40/45 profile would be the same. is this correct???

for 17s you want a 215/45/17 or 225/45/17. i prefer the 215's. you can use a 40 but i forget what the first number has to be, i wanna say 205 but im not positive

...nah, 205 40s are gonna be MINISCULE. the 40 means 40 percent of the width, in millimeters...so a 205 40 would only be about 81mm tall.....very very very low profile. wouldnt look good, would leave a lot of fender well gap...also would give a harsh ride.

though i was thinking of running a 225 40 on my car when i buy my 17s...anyone wanna post a pic if they have 225 40 17s?to help the original poster and i out? maybe a performance review of this size would be nice...heheh, i ask for a lot, i know.

ill give you pictures to prove all ...

205/40s are HORRIBLEY small .
This was my bone stock Cavalier when i got my 17s with 205/ 40s .
AND NO I DIDNT HAVE A LIFT KIT OR ANYTHING.

DO NOT BUY 205 / 40s ... haha

^^ thats amazing. 225/45/17 is nice, I know because I'm rolling on it.

..hey jersey kid, have you dropped your car at all since those pics? I think (withe the wheels im looking to buy), a 225 45 is gonna look too high profile, and make the wheels look smaller (they have a lip)...would rather go a lower profile. anyone got a pic of a 225 40 17incher on a 1.5inch drop?

Yeah, the guy was wrong about the 40's.

Three tire sizes you can consider are:

205/50/17
215/45/17
225/45/17

You'd only want the 205/50's if you got them really cheap or they were for the winter though.

wow these are small

but wont a set of 235/40 17 be near a set of 215/45 17 ? my friend is running 225/40 17 on his cavy and they are only like 5 or 6 mm smaller in diameter!

225/40/17's are actually 0.8" shorter than stock. This is a difference of around 20 mm, not 5 or 6 like you said.

235/40/17 would actually be reasonable, though it's generally too wide for our cars. In many cases, this will introduce various rubbing/cutting issues.
