GM SC+5Speed+DragRacing, What Tire?
Tuesday, August 09, 2005 3:04 PM
Well I raced my cavalier NA with H/I/E and put stock 15s on and let tire pressure down to like 16psi, reved to 3500 and dumped the clutch, blew every gear in the transmission. I now have the GM SC smaller pulley H/I/E aem alt pulley, mounts all that crap. I dont want to loose another tranny.

I have a set of 14 inch steelies I want to mount some nice drag tires on, but what will give me a little tire spin?

Um...ouch on that going poof....

I've done drags once, so my setup is probably not optimal, however, I was running 15.1s fairly consistently (95 degrees out, Cobalt SS's were running around there too).

My setup:
GM sc, full koni suspension, poly bushings (motor mounts and control arms, hadn't installed tranny mounts yet)

16" stock alum. rims
Mostly worn down Falken Azenis sports (205/55/16)
rear press: 50 psi cold (probably 60+ at temp)
front press: 35-ish at temp (ran my first run at full 50 cold, my autocross setup for a baseline)

Launches were around 1800-2200 rpm w/ clutch dump and I could get decent wheelspin at takeoff. I got around 9 runs, that day (day 1 of 05 Bash ) and the timeslips should be in my profile.

I'm not the most consistent, but got pretty decent considering the temp. I'm running stock pulley, and with the temps out that day, was probably pretty much heat soaked the entire time.

Sleeper style, they don't see it coming that way.

id say that 14s are too small same deal with 15s ppl lose alot of top end with them 16 inch rims that are lightweight are the key

Just get a higher profile ratio then. Then you'll have more sidewall squish, making for more traction.

O noes!
