I changed my tires to Toyo Proxes4's last August. I have 17 in. Focal rims and they've been on the car since I've owned it. Anyways, I kept the tires on this winter since I don't have a winter set of wheels and every morning when I go outside the tire is COMPLETELY flat (It doesn't do this in the summer). I've checked the whole tire and there's only air leaking in two places between where the outer edge of the rim and the sidewall of the tire meet. Is there any way to stop this from happening because I have to drive almost a mile to the closest gas station every morning on a COMPLETELY flat tire to fill the stupid thing with air.
Well if your driving on it completely flat, its no good anymore, and unsafe to be filling with air, replace it with your spare, and get that tire replaced.
If it was just leaking around the rim, you should have taken it to a garage so they could buff and seal the rim. That would solve your leak problem, along with replacing the vavle stem while the rim and tire are apart, just for good measure they should seal the valve stem seat as well.
If you've drove on it flat a few times, the casing will start to come apart on the inside, and competely breaks down the strucural integrity of the tire. That tire is NFG now. Very unsafe... buy a new tire ASAP!

Also it's not a winter/summer thing. The corrision of alumium wheels is a constant problem, it always happens sometime or another. Any good tire shop will buff and seal the wheel when changing or replacing the tires to hopefully stop the leaking from happening.. However some wheels are worse then others, and some don't do it at all. Its caused by moisture between the bead and rim. Some places use a soap and water lube, and some use penetrating fluid and water mix. Both cause this problem to happen, and penetrating fluids like WD-40 also cause the tire to become rotten, and this will completely wreck that tire. Vegtable based bead lube is the only lube that should be used to mount tires. It also has a rust inhibitor to help prevent corrision of alumium wheels..
So winter or summer, it eventually would have started leaking on you, but regardless it can be fixed and is a common problem. I might even suggest if the one is really bad when they fix it, get them all done while you are there. If there isn't alot of corrision, don't do the others until the start to leak, which they may never in the life of those tires.. Hard to say.

yeah, your tire cannot keep the bead solid anymore, you will probably need to replace the tire depending on how many times it has ran flat.

Well since the tire has been flat every morning since December, I'd say I've driven on it probably about 75-100 times about 1 mile each time, so all in all I've driven the tire about 75-100 miles completely flat
holy crap...get some new tires and tell them to clean the bead of the rim before they install the new tires, and replace all 4 valve stems and call it..by the way, driving on a tire that has been driven on flat, and reinflated is really dangerous..

I guess what I'm going to try and do is buy a new set of rims (the ones I have on right now are almost shot anyways) and get another set of tires then go get them changed one day as soon as possible. Until then I'll have to be unsafe and keep filling the tire up and drive on it and pray that nothing happens since my Cav is my daily driver and all.
^^^ probably a good idea to get new tires BUT in the meanwhile what you should do is get your tire re-sealed and get the tire guy to plug all your holes (if you have any) same thing happen to me and thats all i did for 20$ and my tire never went low on me again. Hope that helps Stevo. Thanks

OK thanks for the heads up on that 2o3. I'll go do it tomorrow since it's my day off.

No one will repair a tire that has been run flat that many times. If they actually do their job properly, they will put the spare on, or sell him a new tire. If he doesn't have a spare, they SHOULDN'T let the car out of the shop without replacing the tire. Due to safety reasons.. However maybe the laws down there are different. But generally speaking it will cost alot more then 20 bucks considering the tire NEEDS to be replaced.

Well I told the guy at the shop my story and he said that he'd replace the bead inside the tire. The tire is fine now and I'm going to order 4 new Toyos tomorrow anyways since my tires went through winter and are almost shot anyways.

And do you have any experience doing this yourself or have you ever went to a tire shop and have your tires fix before (and they will repair your tire). Just seems like your trying to argue with me with the prices and how things work over here, when i have a receipt to prove it, like dude trust 20$ to re-seal your tire is a normal price and plugs are only 5$ a piece lol. So really what r u trying to prove or say ?? All i was doing is trying to help Steve and making sure to get it checked out first instead of saying some bs comment like you just did.

Well it's been fixed for about almost a week now and it seems to be OK. No more air is leaking and the tire seems to handle the road just as well as it did before. I'm still going to get a new set of 18's this spring and new Toyos as well.
Right on bro, good luck with everything

Hmm.... lets see... What do I do every day??? What have a done for the last 4 years... OH wait a minute.... I HAVE done this before.. actually its what I do 6 days a week, I am a licensed tire technician.... Yep, licensed... through the OTDA, and TIA... SO I MIGHT have a ittle knowledge here and there thank you. Well he said the tire was driven on completely flat, several times, for quite a distance, which if you read what I had posted before, the tire is unsafe, after being run flat, the casing starts to come apart inside, once you take the tire off the wheel, you will see ALOT of the shavings from this happening. that destroys the integrity of the sidewalls, and render's the tire NFG. I know that a tire repair is $25.00 plus tax, as long as the tire can be repaired... Show me your reciepts thats fine. I have repaired many tires, and buffed and re-sealed many tires and rims before. Like I say, I have been doin it for years, six days a week... If the tire had been run flat that much for that long, well lets just say, I hope that guy doesn't drive anywhere near me anytime soon. Anyone who knows alittle bit about tires, and how they are built and how the whole deal works, can back up everything I have stated... which is simple that run flat tires, cannot be repaired. Its unsafe, and shouldn't be done, if they know what they are doing, they won't do it.
Draggin' That A**
Well the place I got it done told me that I should get a new tire as soon as I could and I have done that. I'm just waiting for it to come in the mail then I'm going to take it up to the place I got my tire repaired and let them put it on and be good to go. I'm trying to drive as little as I can right now (only going to work and back) until I get the new tire.

Hey another tire guy!! I was in the business for 2 1/2 (largest dealer west texas) and they never required any certification. I quit cuz i got tired of them wanting us to do unsafe work just to make a sale.....i got some unbelievable stories about those.
Anyways, as for the tire, you're taking a huge risk, especially on a low-pro 17. Try to push in your sidewall and see if you can. If so, it's really weak and can blow anytime
Well I just ran outside and tried to push in the sidewall and believe it or not it's actually as sturdy as one of the tires that are OK right now. However I'm still assuming I have to get it fixed as soon as i can right?
Hmm, well i guess you got lucky. The first thing the tech will notice when he takes the tire off is the smell of burnt rubber if it's chewed up inside. Ask whoever does it, if you can see the tire once it's off the wheel. If you can see with cords on the inside of the sidewall or a lot of "powered rubber" it's time to replace it. Good luck
Thanks 98Cav. I'm actually going to be taking a trip next week and I'm going to be driving for about 3 hours so I hope it'll be OK

And your proud of that LOL . How about you get yourself a real job
And plus he said his tire his fine so let it be dumba$$ and stop trying to make him buy a tire. He said he will already lol. Ok your a tire guy so what, **im not wrong and neither are you**. I look at the situation like its fixable since the technoligy of tires these days are much better and your way is to get a new one since that how the tire shop trained you. As you can see Steves tire is fine BUT your all like its unsafe you need a new tire man, i never seen what it looks like but i know you need a new tire man LOL. How about you let the techs from his area make that decision alright tire guy... I was just giving him my personal experience and a lil help thats all, no need to right a paragraph about how his tire is unsafe, and that your so smart about tires when you didn't even inspect it. So give it up and move on to another thread. Just like in the Canadian mid east forum, nobody likes you here so why dont u spend your time in a dodge forum for crappy trucks lol and you could tell them how much of an expert you are in tires hahaha.

~*Gilles*~
Yes well sorry for trying to help out... holy @!#$ dickface.... Seriously.. I'm a tire bitch, so what good for me, I make a @!#$ty $30 grand a year...... I don't have an education what else should I be doing.... what do you do for a living that so great.... ? The starter of this thread said "because I have to drive almost a mile to the closest gas station every morning on a COMPLETELY flat tire" And on a general basis, that almost always ruins the tire... At least 99% of the time. God you can't hardly drive more than a couple hundred feet ONE TIME, without totaling the tires insides. So maybe the place he went to was a local Sears, or Canadain Tire store, and those types of places don't really give a @!#$, and will just do the simple fix and kick it out. So I thought I would inform the gentleman of the possible risk invovled... Thats it. Obvisouly I was tryin to be informative, and helpful... but you can't stand to be wrong I guess.... That must be it...
Draggin' That A**
The reason why im pissed is cause almost every thread i say something u have to put me into your lil quote thing and make comments about me even tho im not wrong. Whats the problem bud seriously ?? I never had a problem with you giving him very good info, the problem is you comming and saying some BS comment to me when u can just let it go and give your advice and move on. And you know they did fix his TIRE so guess what YOUR WRONG. **Your advice is very good tho** but they did fix it .

^^^^^ Oh yea sure hahaha come on fuk face , you know better then that. I think its the other way arround hahaha.. Try to read PROPERLY. I said **im not wrong and neither are you** obsviously were both right. It doesn't take education to understand that lol.
~*Gilles*~
Yea I know we are both right, I understand that.... I never meant to get you all pissed off or whatever.. I just wanted to mention that generally speaking that if it was run that flat that often, it probally shouldn't have been repaired, and even. MAYBE the low profile of it helped him in that case. It would have been a safety issue, and I was simply warning him of the danger's of it. Thats all. Anyways its sqaushed... Done, he's driving around, good to go. Good luck, thats all.

Thank you and im sorry , well both move on hehe
