phantom grip with a 3400

OK, I'm thinking about this limited slip unit "the Phantom Grip" but will it last with a 3400 V6 engine twisting it? any one have this set up?
I'm already making both the tires spin when I get on it. not sure if I need it. but I was still curious about the longevity of it with the V6, as well as with any HP upgrades. Long story short will the L/S unit last with 380 horse?

thanks

At 380hp on the Isuzu trans I'm pretty sure you'll break the diff, with or without the PG. I've been looking into getting the trans out of an Isuzu car and using it's diff. Or even possibly an older 2nd gen J with the Isuzu, based on the idea that they have the stronger, machined gears. To be honest, I don't think anyone here has put down that kinda power with anything on an Isuzu trans, so it's hard to tell what all will break in it... I'm guessing probably a lot of things.

Most I'd be worried about with the PG is the fact that the spider gears are not made to take a load on the sides of them, and that you'd eventually wear the gears down from the inside out. Though, I can't think of anyone that's had a problem with that either.

I do notice that my 3400 tends to spin both tires. Depending on the surface. A better, stickier surface, like at the track tends to send the power to one wheel again. So I'd say it's probably a worthwhile mod.

2nd gen with a NVG*

That's what I swapped in for my W41 in my 95, bolt up too.

"it's hard to tell what all will break in it... I'm guessing probably a lot of things."

agreed! lol

It seems as though I read somewhere that these tranys are only good for just over 200lb ft of torque. If that's the case I'm pushing that boundary already,

At this point what would be the best trany for me to get, knowing I want to build the engine to 300+hp?

I seen an advertisement, on the web, offering to build custom final drive gears for any vehicle for a measly $2000.00 which is slightly out side my budget!

what do you mean NVG?

New Venture Gear. My guess would be the NVG T550/Getrag 282.

I'm considering dropping a 3800 3.8L V6 GM engine into my Pontiac Sunfire planning on having 400HP+, what kind of transmission can handle that kind of power? I assume the W41 or Getrag 242/ NVG T550 that you spoke of?

00+ F23 Getrag has held that and more, and replacement parts are readily available. The NVG T550 and HM282 are better than the Isuzu, but parts and replacements are getting harder and harder to come by, and the mileage on used ones can be quite high.

Phantom Grips insert for the Isuzu requires you to "machine" down the spider gears for the plates to fit between them. The TeamGREENPerformance insert was designed to fit w/o grinding them (large gears may still need a ridge machined down so the plates can sit flat)
