Can the final drive gear set be changed out in my 97 cavalier 5 speed?
From what I understand it has a 3.58:1 I am looking to go faster so I need a lower set, something like a 3.08:1 or even a 2.73:1

Even if you change the final drive you will still be stuck with a 108mph speed limited. You would have to have the limiter removed.

There is a different gear set from a geo transmission but I don't remember the ratio. Anything other than that would have to he custom cut. At that point you will probably need to get other gears cut as well.

In short, yes ou can change the ratio if you have the money.
