I recently put the motor back in my 99 Z24. Aligned the clutch and torqued everything to spec. But when I started the car it would not go into gear. Turn the car off and it shifts fine. I went ahead and warrantied the master cylinder since it wouldnt cost me anything but that didnt fix it. So I pulled the tranny out and replaced the slave cylinder. Well my luck being what it is the new slave cylinder leaked so I took it back apart and replaced it again. This slave cylinder is for sure good but Im still having the same problem. If I put the car in gear and try to start it the car will pull itself forward so the transmission is obviously good. Im out of ideas and really need to get this car moving. Please help.
does the pedal stay on the floor? If so are you sure you got all the air out of the line?
Yes. Pedal feels great. Has plenty of pressure. Weve bleed it probably 20 times but still nothing. Even tried bench bleeding the master cylinder just to make sure.
I had this same problem with my 2000 cavalier not to long ago. My engine had gone on me so I put a new engine in and since i already had everything apart i got a new clutch kit to replace the old oem one... probably two weeks down the road i was driving down the highway and couldn't shift down to take a sharp turn. My clutch went in and stayed in. And to top it all off there was a big semi riding my butt at highway speeds. I had to pull my clutch back up with my hand and then it worked for awhile till I got to a stop sign. My clutch stuck to the floor again, by this time I was trying to decide what I had done wrong with the install. I luckily have a friend that is a transmission specialist and decided he'd be the guy to ask. He helped me take it all apart, my slave cylinder was leaking from the seals. Luckily it was all under warranty so I got a new clutch kit free of charge and replaced it all again. Now its been going strong for about 4 months with no problems. I guess all i can say is make sure you check any seals you may have.
Ive got it fixed now. Turned out to be the flywheel. Dont ask me how cause it still doesnt make sense to me but when I took the new flywheel out and put the old in it worked. One of the crazier things Ive seen.
Good to hear you got it fixed. Nothing worse then having a car and not being able to drive it.
