OK, I am installing an OBX LSD in my friend's Cobalt 2.2 with the F23 transmission. My concern is the bearing pre-load for the differential. Some have said that the OBX LSD needs machined, some have said that it doesn't. Are shims required for the bearings or do you just press them on??? If they are needed, where wouldbe a good placeto take the differential to have the preload checked and adjusted???
Thanks for any and all info.

Let a trans shop install the differential. Take the trans apart and take the diff off. Make sure you put all the case bolts back so they can tighten everything down to check the pre load. Have them use the stock shims and press on the new bearings. They can then check the pre load. It was at this point they told me I needed the diff machined down. I took it to a machine shop, they took off 40 thou. from the side opposite ring gear. They got it all together with out any problems.
Make sure you take it apart so they dont have to screw around with it. It should only take them an hour to get everything installed and checked.
Hey Jmarks how does the OBX LSD drive, how do you like it, any issues or problems so far?
Good info on the diff JR!
