i got a 96 z24 5 speed and the differential just went out, im trying to sell it. does anyone know if i can take a differential out of a 2.2 tranny or out of a 2.4 auto tranny?
2.2 isuzu should me the same. not 100%
ok now im confused because i know for a fact you can swap gears on a 2.2 and a 2.4, its just why would you. are you sure, if anyone has more info please let me know

This is true. To get a 2.2 diff in your 2.4, take the ring gear off the trashed 2.4 and swap it onto the new 2.2 diff. That is all.
or so what your telling me is that i can tare apart a 2.2 and swap differentials and have shorter gearing and put that all back together in my 2.4 uzi's and it will work just fine. im trying to find the best but cheapest route
no not the diif assembly the 3rd and 4th gears only i would not do the diff. I would get another 2.4 trans for the diff because the diif in the 2.2 is smaller than the 2.4 one. like i said the 2.2 is a 3.58 ratio and the 2.4 is a 3.94 ratio. But if you are only wanting a differential you need to get one out of another 2.4 isuzu trans. most likely you just stripped out the spider gears that is the common problem with them. and you can use the spiders out of a 2.2 trans.

and you are right. spider gear is gone. now should that cost alot cheaper, can i just by a differential rebuild kit and rebuild it and call it a day, i can ger a rebuild kit from my parts dealer for about a bill fifty, or a used tranny for 4-500 bucks.
