what the weakest point on a 5spd trany out of a 1995

i have heard from an owner of a junkyard that the 5spd are not very durable. i need to know if the internals and the caseing can handle 250 300 hp. if not what is the weakest part?

The weakest part by far is the differential. It will hold 250 HP easy, if you don't abuse it and do one-wheel burnouts all the time. If you want to make it beefier, swap in the differential from a 90-94 5-speed Cavalier, Geo Storm, Isuzu Impulse, or Pontiac Sunbird. The 95-99 transmissions have cast differential gears, and the 90-94 have forged gears.

so have you ever herd of the caseing breaking. i also was told that a 3 spd automatic out of a older cavy would be bullet proof if built up by a trany shop and b.a if a shift kit was put it in ? can you give me some help here.

what exactly do you mean by slow?
would you prefer a 1995 5spd with a 1994 set of gears and a aftermarket differential
