ok im just wondering if it'd be worth it to swap my regular 5speed trans for a get rag 5speed, only reason i ask is i think my trans is just about toast, and i can get a get-rag from an 01 sunfire relativly cheap with low kms
Getrag F23 > Isuzu sourced pre2k gearbox.

Mounts are different though, if you can find an older (NVG I think? I forget) getrag from some of the HO Quad4s it should have the same mounts as your isuzu box.
A search on JBO should net you a thread on the conversion from isuzu to F23 (it's been done -- requires some welding IIRC).

Sleeper style, they don't see it coming that way.

debatable. my isuzu has 125k on it right now, and it feels as tight as the day i got it. i'm not nice to it either.

you'll need more than just the trans. you'll need the mount (and the ability to cut and weld), cables, shifter assembly, center console...

i dont see the console being a problem.........but then again it does have 2 cup holders, and not sure if it makes a difference in the mount but my sunfire is a 2200
u could use the tranny from a 92+ beretta v6. it will bolt in, u can use ur clutch/slave and only need a shift cable extender avalible from OEM. idk how bad the gears would be but its a nvg trans and theres guy pushin big ponyies through them on 60degreev6.com and bstuff.com.

the difference in the mounts is the location between the isuzu and the getrag. to do the swap, you have to cut and weld.

ok lol, im kind of a dumbass when it comes to transmissions
Having owned both, IMO Isuzu > Getrag any day.
When I had the 96 S/F I could shift really quick and it felt smooth, quiet for the 5 years I had it. On the Getrag; it feel clunky, getrag noise is there (albeit lower then when I bought the car new), and at times it feel like a ticking time bomb.
When I had the Isuzu the only thing I wish I had was the B&M short shifter, like I have for the Getrag, then it would have been perfect.

F23>isuzu

Getrag number 7 or 8 in my 02 right now. Isuzu number 2 in my 98. I think you can tell which one I feel is a better trans for what I do.
YA!
Well, my T56 owns them all!

My NVG 3500 has outlasted both the Isuzu and Getrag, of course the NVG 3500 isnt a FWD trans (or the T56 for that matter
)

yeah i read it, i was kinda hoping to get a more simple answer, all i need to know is would the isuzu or getrag be better for a 140hp daily driver with some track time
and im sorry if i sound like a retard, i just dont know alot about transmissions yet
and i can do the cutting and welding for the mount on the getrag
ok thanks lol, guess i shoulda put what i ws doing with the car in my first post lol, another question though, is there any company that make a short throw shifter for the 95-99's? i searched my ass off and cant find any
never looked on ebay as i dont have a credit card, but it seems like a good quality @!#$er from the pics, may consider it later on down the road
why not just use the OLDER getrag.."NVG" ..better gearing and its a direct bolt up with no cutting or welding involved....has no one offered this option yet????
haha i guess i forgot the f in shifter lol, and what cars would the NVG's come out of?
