ok, so i have a 2000 2.2 with the 4t40e, and i want to know if i should keep it as it(with 145000m on it), and wait for it to die, rebuild it now, or try to upgrade to a better tranny. what do you guys think?

this car is going to get much more power hopefully within a year...up to 300hp...maybe a little more, but i doubt it.

and i want to keep it auto.

If you going to be pulling the engine at a later time, plan on doing the transmission at the same time. If you've been reading this thread, I gave a quick explanation as to what can be done, with the help of Chris (Taetsch Z-24). Keep the money to have it rebuilt ready, just incase problems arise. In the mean time assemble the parts you want to go in it before hand, unless you've got a reputable shop that carries all the parts. Also, with the 2200 you have a 3.63 final drive ratio, you can move up to the 2.4L TC/Z24's 3.91 final drive, if you move the powerband up any.

Between what MadJack said and my build thread TurboCavalier98's Trans build You should have more than enough info to make a solid determination on what you want to do with your transmission. Good luck.

A automatic 2.4L tranny is a 4T40E same transmission I have in my 98' 2200 boosted Cavi.

I thought the 4T40E tranny was exclusive to the ecotec engines, didn't know they used the 4T40E trannies in the LD9 engines too.
