So how bad would it be to fix the forks I worked on 5 speed fed transmissions bebor I welded a few dif pins on neons anyone know how bad it ne to fix and were I can get the parts
typically its cheaper and easier to replace the trans altogether.

1 and 2 share a shift fork, 3 and 4 share one and 5 and reverse share one.

Bought a used tranny with 60k on it for $300 CAD. They're pretty cheap.
does the tranny have to come completely apart to get to the shift forks? im thinking my nylon tips are gone on my shift fork, having a hell of a time getting the car in 3rd and 4th.

You have to seperate the case halves and I seem to recall having to pull the shafts out to get to the forks. After the 4th one I stoped opening mine up to see what failed. I think I am on Getrag #7 or 8 right now.
Ya these trannys really are weak. I don't care what some of these guys say about learn how to drive and sh*t lol... There just really weak just put my third in last Thursday.... 4hrs 23 min you start to get the hang of it real quick haha...
120K on my old cars... blown sence 26K... raced every weekend since 34K.....................................
Trany lasted till 120K......................
idn what to tell ya.......
make sure its in gear before you let the clutch out? sit closer to the searing wheel so you "over" shift the shifter?...............

Some win, some lose with those tyranny's... when you put you new one in and get that urge to just slam gears, cause i know i do. just drive a little more gentle lol... that will at least help ha.

that's what you get for street racing
Currently at 162K on my Getrag, as I don't bag the @!#$ out of a stock tranny. Isuzu's are not impervious to this either, you just have to know when to shift at the proper RPM's.
i shift at 6400 but i went to the yard today i got a getrag for the eco with 29000 on it, a cd interface and dash kit ,a set of shifter cabels for 265.00
damn, nice pick up.. i need to hit up a yard soon.. fog light.. fender liner.. the airbag module under the passenger seat..spare trans..

Honestly these transmissions are hit or miss. I'm one my third one and fifth still grinds on mine. While I was still working for gm can't tell you how many cobalts I did. A lot of ss with synchro problem, even the new lnf I now 4 people the have had to go have shifter pins, links, shifters, and synchros replaced under warranty nothing is impervious. Best failure I've seen in person is the diff coming out the side of the tranny happened to friend on a 5000 rpm launch with slicks.
well, what comes in for warranty work doesn't tell me anything. Perhaps weak points sure, and ^interesting info there. I remember when people used to say the F23 was worse than the isuzu cause they saw like 5:1 of the F23's in there...LOL. This was like 2 years ago when there wasn't many or any Isuzu's were still under warranty. LOL....stealerships get warranty work...not much else, so of course they were only going to get the F23's in there instead of the Isuzu's...LOL. Sorry to get off topic, just thought I'd throw that in there cause whenever I hear anything about somebody working at a dealership this pops into my head and I laugh.

My own personally experience says that the Isuzu takes my driving far better than the Getrag F23. Also I saw quite a few F23s come in with wasted diffs, synchros, and bearings. Overall I would say that they are about equal when used for the intended purpose.
Must be on that side of the Pond thing.
Over hear Dogans driving ( with a NA 2.4) wasted 3 of them. Has a F23 in it now.
I have a NVG.... so Im happy!

you dont have to cut much, i trimmed the angle off the end of it i think its like 4" or so. wont hurt the subframe any so dont worry about it
