Hey all after the last 2 months of rginding down into 3rd gear it's been confirmed that I need a new tranny, cheaper to replace then fix the synchro... I've already got a 60k one lined up for a good price. My mechanic suggested that I replace my clutch while it's out. (car has 162k) so I've decided why not might aswell.
So now i'm in the market for a good clutch. I'm mildly boosted so from what i've personally reserched I'm thinking spec stage 2, and I can't decide on the flywheel...Do fidanza compare well to the spec flywheel? Do the spec clutch and fidanza go well together? I'm pretty sure I don't want a lightened flywheel either. What do you think would be my best options? My budget isn't extremly high so that's why i am leaning towards fidanza cause it's $100 less on TTR's website.
Thoughts and Thanks.
Just keep your stock flywheel. Not a good idea to use a fidanza with boost. Talked to my transmission guy when I was getting my clutch put in a couple weeks back. Basically said almost every boosted car has sheared their fidanza flywheel. Basically only good for N/A.
Just get your stock one resurfaced. Only about $50 instead of $350.
As for the clutch, I would get the stage 2+. I've heard that's the better of the two clutches.
Just my 2 cents

Go with a stock flywheel and a stock replacement clutch. Many mildly boosted cars have used stock clutches with great success.
Ya, im running an OEM exedy. Not the most fun to drive for the first 500 miles but it's starting to feel better now. Of course, it all depends on what you're doing in the future....and of course how much you abuse it.

Hmmmm interesting advice. This is the first time i've heard someone say to just stick wtih the stock clutch/flywheel. Sounds good to me though reliability is a high priority for me. I don't plan on doing anything more to my engine or SC except maybe motor mounts. Maybe a 3.2 pulley or something a bit smaller if I need a bit more power.
I have a friend using the Saab kit and he is still using a stock clutch. He has been running it at 10 PSI for quite some time and has not had any problems. He also races the car a lot. Probably close to 150 passes on this clutch so far.
Quite relieving to know others have had success. I just gotta get a price quote for a new stock clutch/flywheel. I can't resurface mine because I don't have the option to take more then 1 day off of work at a time. But I'm going to assume all said and done tranny+clutch+flywheel+labour will land me near $1000. Which isn't bad considering I was looking at $1000 JUST for the spec stage2+fidanza not including the labour. (BTW would 10psi from a saab kit be harder on the car then the gm sc kit which im hitting 10psi on aswell?)
Flywheel resurface shouldn't take long at all.
Labor you're looking at anywhere from 400-1000. Try to find a nice little shop with a rep and not too much overhead. Aamco wanted to charge me $1k just for labor.
If you're gonna get a new flywheel you might as well attempt to install it yourself. Save a few hundred. I'm starting to wish I did.

Oh, another question if that's cool. What would ya recomend me doing about tranny mounts? I have both prothane mounts from TTR that are sitting in my room. Would it be a good idea to put those in now too? I'm asking mainly because I heard that it's not good to do if you have stock engine mounts, true? false?
Probably a good idea to put both engine and tranny on at the same time.
What year and car do you have?

02 sunfire. Hmmm i really wanted to put that tranny mount on now (since itll be hard as @!#$ later right?) but guess not since i don't have any motor mounts now.
You can go ahead and put them in. I havent heard anything about it being bad to just have tranny mounts in and not the engine ones. Of course, I only have the engine mounts on right now. Engine ones are pretty simple to install so go ahead and put the tranny ones on. That's just my opinion tho...
