Ive got a 2.4l 01 z24.
I found a nvg tranny with 80k miles on it from a 1994 (achieva)? with a 2.3l DOHC engine. Comes with mounts. Will this swap directly? thanks!
Not to hijack your thread but i have the same question. I have a 4t40e out of a 99 malibu with the v6 that I had leftover from my old car. Will this swap?
make sure the that it is infact an nvg i bought a trans from a 94 grand am with a 2.3 and its an isuzu
my kill list:a geo metro and a mac semi wow did i kill that thing
Hmm, well how hard would it be to use the mounts from the donor car with the cav? Can they be welded? Holes drilled in firewall?
Also, there aren't any cavalier mounts that will bolt to an nvg tranny? hm

No, it won't directly swap. The mounts are different. Transmission bolts up though.

No, the V6 has a completely different bellhousing than the 4 cyls, unless you have a 2.2.
I figured the guy at the GM dealership was getting my hopes up for no reason. Thats why I dont take my truck there to get service, he's a sheister...LOL
my last two posts still stand as questions btw, for those who are reading the last post to see if it was answered or not
the nvg works with 95-99 cavs due to the mounts that are welded to the car, mainly the rear mount location. your 2k mounts that are welded to your car will not work, the front tho can be slotted to fit, the rear is your issue. you can try and located the older mounts and weld them to ur car as well as find a rear isuzu trans mount to go between the nvg and the newly welded 95-99 mount.
there are plenty of posts out there on the nvg swap, i run one, its a nice trans and can take abuse. but its mostly a swap for the pre 2k guys as the getrag you have is also a nice trans. id recommend just selling the nvg as it is wanted by many pre 2k guys and you pick yourself up a new getrag as they can be had pretty cheap, that is if thats the issue and u broke ur current trans, if not id not bother with the swap.
i ahvent bought the nvg yet, i just heard its better than any other trans the cav can run. what model getrag would i have to buy that will fit the 2k's? i know its the f23 (m86?), but i doubt it will work with my 4 speed mounts. What would i need for the auto - getrag swap? Also, i know the isuzu isnt the most ideal tranny, but is it so bad that its not reccomended at all? How would THAT fit into the 2k's? theyre so much more common than finding a getrag for a decent price.
As for the swap itself, i cant stand this auto!
I don't think any of us realized you were currently rockin' the automatic... in that case.. either the NVG (old Getrag) or the F23 (new Getrag) are an option, because you have to weld in mounts anyway. The auto mount only works with the automatic transmissions (3 or 4 speed).
The Isuzu, if you can find a decent one for a decent price (I couldn't... $1200 for a Isuzu trans around here, only $800 for a full Eco swap WITH the Getrag trans also), assuming it's from a 2.4L would work with your 2.4L as well... but they are a weaker transmission... and parts are more expensive for the Isuzu than a newer Getrag. Keep in mind, they're all old now (1999 was the last year... so 10 years ago..) finding one that's good, with low mileage on it... very difficult. Rebuilding them is expensive..
Here's a link to my 5-speed swap page:
http://members.shaw.ca/johnz24/ it tells you what you'd need to put an F23 Getrag in. You'll have to substitute other parts for the NVG swap, but the process is the same...

Thanks for your help, guess I didn't clarify well enough. What would someone expect to pay to have the labor done?
Well, depends where you get it done... probably more than your car is worth.
