well i went to the track this weekend and when i was making my 2nd pass i lanched at about 3k went all the way thur first gear with no wheel hop, then when i put it in 2nd it wouldnt work, same with 4th and R but 1st 3rd and 5th work just fine do u have any ideas of what it could be? i rly dont want to replace the trans again
check your shift cables in the engine bay one might have popped off at the trans.....just a thought
One of 3 things happened:
- Shift cable at the trans popped off at the shift linkage
- Shift cable at the shifter in the center console popped off
- Shift cable broke
Easy stuff... just gotta troubleshoot which one it is.

I believe it could very well the shifter cables. I had similar problems and it was one of the shifter cables that finally crapped out on me.
You said that when you put it in 2nd, 4th and R it wouldn't work. By that, you mean that it slides in easy and it does nothing? Or do you have difficulty getting it into those gears ( grinding not included?)
100% shift cables, when gears drop in those groupings it is always a shift cable.
i hope they are the cables i will be checking them as soon as i get home from work
well i checked the cables and they are hooked up to the trans and to the shifter, so i figured they where broke it the midde but when i pulled on each one it made the shifter move.
i can get it into 1st 3rd and 5th no problem but it doesn't even go into 2nd 4th or R with out a fight and i can push the shifter down and move it all the way side to side and its not even tryin to get in any gear.
do yall think it could be the part that the cables hook to on the trans?
does it engauge when the cars not running?
horsepower is the force that determines at what speed you hit the wall, torque is the force that determines how far you take the wall with you after you hit it.
i know when the pressure plate broke in QBE something very similiar was going on

It could be that you broke a shift fork. It can sometimes happen that harsh shifting will crack a part of the fork off, and it may fall into a bad spot inside the transaxle. This broken piece may be blocking the movement of your other shift forks. Just a thought.
well here is a video of me doing it if this helps any.

i guess you cant get good help in these forums.. probably not much hope in getting an answer to my my tranny problem. the guys saying this is a simple cable problem.. u dont know @!#$.. ya that is first thing u should check but to have groupings that hes got its not likely.
it would help to know the year of your cavi... earlier than '99 they an izuzu tranny or something.... '99+ they have the getrag....
if ur older than '99 its likely its a shift fork. if ur newer i am at a loss... this is based on the fact that in a getrag there are 3 shift forks, one for 1st/2nd, another for 3rd/4th and a third for 5th and reverse... so its not the shift forks if u have the getrag as you wont lose those groupings

well, 99% of the time, with the getrag, when you have 1, 3, and 5, but not 2, 4, and r (or the opposite) its a shift cable broblem.

close, you've got the years wrong though. 00+ has the getrag, 99- has the isuzu.

a quick look at his registry says he has an '04, thus getrag. shift cable issue. i would suggest looking back (using the search function that works VERY well on this site, to all the threads pertaining to losing a bank of gears, and you'll see, it's quite common on the getrag equipped cars, because it's what happens when one of the cables snaps or pops off.
to the op: check the connection at the trans.

^gtfo, Where is the problem in telling people to check the easy stuff first? would you want some one to tell you your tranny is bad and replace it only to find it is a broken cable? What a douche,
hey sorry i am just fed up with not getting simple (intelligent) answers from people when i need help. Im no auto mechanic, although im an industrial mechanic by trade so i have some mechanical know-how....
Since you seem so familiar with these trannies Rich, perhaps you can give me an intelligent answer to my post.... i need to know what ONE lever is supposed to do on the transaxle. and then we'll take it from there
To 96Red, sorry to you again, youre right that there is nothing wrong with telling them to check these things first.... however, I have been searching these forums and all i see in the tranny section is people parading around declaring "cables!".... if u need to be told its your cables then u probably shouldnt be messing around with stuff in your to begin with.
Yea, I get what you are saying, I guess my post was kinda @!#$-ish. But it never hurts to check, I have kicked myself many times after thinking it was something big then finding out it was something simple lol

Not getting answers to YOUR problems doesn't give you the right to start ripping on other people in their threads. Since you just joined this forum, maybe you should look around a bit first. Back to the Noob forum with you!
Lenko i think u need to be in newb forum.. thanks for posting on my thread with another idiotic "cable" proclaimation
I don't try and "own" anyone... I try and help people... that's what this forum is about.
Dan, don't let the door hit you in the arse on the way out.
u wont catch me here again... good for nothing
