Slave cylinder problem?
Thursday, December 18, 2008 3:45 PM
Hey, posting this for a friend.

He has a 98 z24 5 speed with 130,000 miles that drives fine for 3 or 4 days but then it will be hard to put it into gear. So he has to crack the bleeder on the slave cylinder then its fine for another few days.

What do you think the problem is?

Save yourself the trouble of being stuck somewhere with him when it breaks. Replace the slave cyl now.

Doesn't matter. I've put one in, drove for 12 miles and had it leak. If it leaks, it leaks. It works based entirely on a thin piece of rubber sleeve. Not the best design (like so many things on our cars), but it works pretty good.
I've pulled my trans about 5 times and have replaced the slave 3 times. That should tell you something. I swore it couldn't be leaking, put it together, it leaked, then I had to pull it out again. Trust me, pulling our transmissions aren't that bad, but I don't like doing it unless I have to.
