Hey guys. I have a "new in the box" Yank converter which I bought from Mike Senia of Yank when he was getting rid of their inventory. I bough this converter 2 years ago and it has sat in it's box in my house. I never got around to installing it and have since gone in another direction. Here is what he said of this converter:
This converter was built for General Motors (later SLP) for a special project. It was all new parts with a heavy duty thicker gauge cover asm. It has a heavy blade turbine, and a special heavy duty, extra thick blade #5 pump. The #5 pump has high efficiency at high RPM while maintaining a base stall speed. (This pump is very special and is only available from us in this converter. It was a very limited production built. It is not available to the general market in any other converter. It was way too expensive to make for such a low volume market.)
This converter has meet and exceeded GM design criteria for the current high RPM 4 cylinder engine market.
The converters are being sold by me as I was told to liquidate the inventory by Yank Converters and GMPT. SLP has no interest in selling them either, again due to low volume of sales. When the units are sold out there will be no more. #5 pumps were a prototype material and they can not be offered anymore due to the tooling being destroyed by GM. I found this out in several phone conversations with GMPT and Yank Converters. This is due to a major cost cut back in the FWD market segment. The converter is being sold way under the break-even point. Anyone taking advantage of this now will be getting the best deal possible.
This converter will fit: 4T65, 4T60, 4T45, 4T40, 3T40, TH125. Also, it has a carbon lockup clutch. Here is the thread that I pulled the above information from,

For those who don't realize, this allows a higher launch rpm for the automatic transmissions, getting you closer to the torque peak. Ideally you want your launch rpm just before torque peak (which is between 3600-4400 rpm depending on the motor in stock form. When you start adding performance mods, most will start raising the torque peek, which will give you more reason to have one of these. You'll make bigger gains with this than with a shift kit/ShiftPlus/ HPT (tuning shifts only) alone and will work great with these improved shifting methods. This will work with the TH125c/3T40 (3sp), 4T40E (4 sp), 4T45E, 440-T4 and 4T60(E). It will also allow you to hold the rpms higher when two footing the brake and throttle to keep the rpms higher in auto-X (to come off the corners quicker), if your one of the few who auto-X with the automatics.
Yank makes a damn good TC and is worth far more than $200 (normally $600 +). I paid nearly double his price for mine and I'm quite happy with what it has done.
Thanks for the bump MadJack but it is sold. Check the reply just before yours. IMO, it was a steal of a price!
damn madjack... way to make someone feel bad for not having theirs installed for over a year!!!!
and all this time ive had one and bitched about my poor off the line performance. LOL
You look so much cuter with something in your mouth.
