I'm looking at buying a 1996 Cavalier, 2.2l, with a 3-speed automatic. Owner says tranny slips in 3rd or won't go into 3rd at all. I have a 1990 cavalier with a 2.2l, 3-speed auto, WILL THE TRANSMISSION OUT OF MY 1990 FIT THE 2.2 IN THE 96' Or is the slipping tranny in the 96' an easy fix? I believe they both have the 3T40 transmission, I don't know if the bell housing are the same on the 2.2l though.

Any help is greatly appreciated

yes if im not mistaken they should both be the same izuz tranny. and even if there not it will bolt to your engine and to your mounts
