Ive been on here for a while, Had another name but cant remember the password.
I have a Red 99 Z24 with the isuzu transmission.
About a year ago, the transmsission locked up on me due to what I believe was a bad input bearing.
I pulled the isuzu transmission out and dropped in one from a 97 grand am. Transmission shifts a little notchy but it gets me around.
I was wondering if the transmission from the grandam is an isuzu or a getrag?
Ive read how people needed to extend the shifter cable for the getrag when switching from an isuzu, should I extend it, will it shift better?
Also, Ive been debating on rebuilding the stock 99 motor (pulled out and also replaced with the motor from the 97 grand am). When doing that, im going to rebuild a transmission as well. Should I rebuild the stock transmission or the grandam one?
Thanks for the help,
Thomas

the tranny out of the grand am is an isuzu..if it was a getrag your shifter cable couldnt even reach the linkage without the extension...not to mention they stopped making that tranny in 94 ..
Sounds good, thanks for the info.
Is there any difference is the gear ratio between the two transmissions.

not with the one you got..they are the same
i assume that since the transmissions are the same the clutches are as well. when i put the pontiac transmission in i used a chevrolet clutch. it was put in with the pontiac flywheel but i was having some issues with the clutch not releasing fully so i pulled the transmission and put the chevrolet one on but i am still having the same issue. is there a way to adjust the clutch pedal? i come from the eclipse world and was able to on my gsx.
thanks for the help,
