NVG Swap- MODS
Thursday, September 18, 2008 2:47 PM
I am about to pick the tranny up from the yard this weekend. I know the rear mount needs to be shimmed. I was wondering if someone has the amount that it needs to be shimmed so I can make some spacers. Also do I need to shim the side mount hole on the back mount as well? Next question, the mount in the front has to be from the JY car. Will it fit right into the spot where the izuzu mounts? Also can I use the poly mount from the izuzu?

I forget how thick of a spacer you need for the mount..... but you can always use washers till you get it right

You can use the poly inserts in the Isuzu mount, but the NVG mount is smaller..... the only one you can use for that mount is the TTR solid insert, and have it turned down to fit.

I FOUND ONE. Its about 100 miles from me and they want $200 bucks already pulled, good deal???? It has 115k on it and is from a 2.3 HO. Not sure if it comes with the mounts or what not, I will have to call back.

I called back and they cant tell me for sure that it will come with the tranny mounts. So are there any other trannys with the same front mount other than the HO. By the way this is an F5, is that the correct one?

I have a post from back in the summer that tells you not only how much to lathe the front isuzu insert down, but how to do it yourself in your garage. Search it up.

You don't need the TTR Solid mount for lathing btw... I used a Prothane and it didn't come anywhere near the holes. Just to be sure though, you can use a solid TTR one just for the extra strength and peace of mind.

I believe I have two 1/8" shims on the rear mount, no shims needed for the side mount. You'll see when you bolt the mount up just how much shimming needs to be done.

Isuzu front mount bolts right up.

You need to create the shift cable extension pictured above. It's right around 1".

Be sure you get the cast shift cable bracket and not the weak aluminum one.

BE SURE to use an NVG throwout bearing. You can use a 2.4 clutch and flywheel with it.

Lastly, out of all the bolts that hold the trans to the engine I could only get ONE to not work. Use spacers/shims and good high grade bolts for the rest. Don't half ass it...

Good luck.

.. 93-94 used a stamped steel one... GM knew about the problems with the cast one breaking......it was always alum.

BUT, and i looked, there are none out there.... Tom (wrenchmonkey) got the last one.... i did my best to get more.... IF i can dig some up ill let ya know.

Other wise look for a 93-94...

Cool, cool. Yeah I got the TOB for the NVG tranny so i am good there. I am going to pick the tranny up tomorrow, but I dont know if it has a front mount, is there any way to get teh izuzu one to work? Maybe drill new holes in it?? If not does anyone have a spare one laying around?

Also what was the one hole that you could not use and got the link to the page??
