I tried searching, but couldn't find teh exact information that i needed.
So i bought an engine off of a guy, a 2.2 ECOtec. plans are to drop the S.O.B. into a 2000 z24. now the car was a manual with the old transmission/engine, but the engine i got came with a slushbox. i promptly removed teh auto transmission and TC and bought a manual gearbox. still have yet to get a clutch,, but thats in the near future, when fundage is better. anyways, what i want to know, is 2 things.
1 -- will i need a new flywheel? and the bearings on the crank, do they need changing? i only ask because when we did the auto to manual swap on the Celica we had to, but when i helped on a old ford probe, we didn't. so whats the deal on the jbody?
2 -- I've read that the ECU must be swapped, but i want to know WHY. both previous A/T - M/T swaps i've done it wasn't nessecary. What makes a cavalier/sunfire any different? im not saying that like all cars have the computer running the same exact thing, I'm just wondering, you know, trying to learn and such. I mean, could i run the Auto ecu if i got a tune, and adjusted all the stuff on there? cause the thought was to run the auto ecu/harness and just have an extra plug somewhere down be the trans that didnt connect, or something.
And before everyone decides to break out their lighters and flame me for this, know that i DID SEARCH and couldn't find the answers. and if i didnt already make it obvious, im not so great with transmissions.
so thanks in advance

Get all the parts you need in a pile, and drive the car into it.
They will find their way into the correct places.
1) Yes, you need a fly wheel. The one from the automatic is a flex plate, with 3 attachment points for the torque converter, waaaay different from a fly wheel. You will also need 6 brand new Fly wheel bolts from GM, you cannot re-use the auto ones as they are too short and they are torq to spec. Nothing else needs to be done to the crank.
2) You can use the PCM, but it will need to be re-flashed for a manual car with same options you are running on yours ( cruise, abs, etc). You can physically run the PCM, but you're going to throw I want to say its 6-7 Fault codes.
- You also need a manual engine wiring harness for the same specs as your car too. ( ABS or no ABS) You can re-use your auto one, but enjoy tracking down the pigtails, and re-wiring everything.
any other Q's PM me..
u can use the auto harness fine, just need to cut a purple and yellow wire for the clutch safety (was neutral safety switch on auto) and either run it to ur pedal to actually use the clutch safety to start the car or connect the 2 and not have the safety. then u just have to hook up the reverse lights, which i still have not done and hook up the vss which is just 2 wires. its very simple and most of the auto harness in not even used its just left over stuff.
