Shifter Cable Issues
Thursday, August 28, 2008 7:17 AM
As stated in my other post, I'm having problems with my fore-aft shift cable. The problem itself is actually the clip.. I think. Whenever I drive somewhat spiritedly, I always pop the clip off in third, and lose my 1-3-5.

It never did this before I installed my B&M, and it only does it in third. Has anybody else had an issue like this? And does anybody know the part number for those clips?

Thanks.

If it only does this after you put the B&M shifter in I would take another look at how that is installed and pay close attetion to make sure the cable is hooked to the shifter in the correct spot. I have driven my car hard for as long as I have owned it and never had a problem with the clips.

I marked the cables before I took off the original shifter, and reattached them to where the marks were, to about within a centimeter of accuracy. Is it possible I damaged the clip when taking it off of the original shifter?

I feel like I hit third, and just because I'm not used to the shorter throws, I probably push it a little further than I should, but I don't think it should be popping off like that just because I'm shifting a little hard.

I would take a look awhere the cable goes into the bottom of the shifter, that clip there. just see if it is still in the same spot and undamaged.

I think I know what you're talking about, but if I have to fix this one more time I'm just going to tear the whole thing out and check everything. It sucks when a short shifter actually SLOWS your shifting speed :\

i put a B&M shifter in my car and had it in the car now for a while and never had a problem with popping out . i got the problem on the other side where they clips go into the gearobx itself

the clip were badly worn so i put a butl and a lock nut on it and had that done now over a year and never had a problem .

It happened again today. I'm willing to bet it's more possible that I @!#$ something up than the part breaking. I'm going to fix the cable half way between where it is now, and where I thought it was, and drive it hard. I'll keep ripping through the gears and fixing it further back until it doesn't pop out anymore.
