Hey guys I remember reading about swapping some of the gears from a 2.2 5spd into the F23 Getrag to get better gear splits, does anyone know which gears to swap? Is it 2nd & 3rd or 3rd & 4th, or some other combo, I can't remember?
2.2 and 2.4 F23's are the same....
but a F23 from a Newer car ....say HHR.... now you get some options....

Thanks Chris, I'm building a turbo 2.3/2.4 hybrid and doing occassional drag racing with it and I know turbo cars don't need alot of gear and maybe it's not as critical with a turbo motor compared to a na setup.
Thought the hhr had a f35 same as the cobalt?

4 Cams...32 Valves...5 Liters...This Could Get Fun!
I thought the only option was swapping 5th from a vue

gearing is pretty good imo if you raise the rev limitor, i rev to 7k and 3rd is 90mph and 4th is 130mph, which is pretty good for the track i shouldnt have to shift to 5th ever
R.I.P. Brian Klocke, you will never be forgotten
2.2/2.4 HHR's have 430/455 FDR's............
the F35 is only for the LSJ\LNF

thats for the Isuzu trans.
For the F23, pretty much the only option you have is swapping out the FDR from the HHR or the Vue. The J-bodies have a 3.94:1 FDR, the HHR has a 4.17:1 and the Vue a 4.77:1 (going off memory, but that should be about right). According to GM, the new F23's also have a different 5th gear, but I forget what it is.
Part numbers for the HHR FDR.

Thanks speed but thats's too much gear for my turbo setup, all it'll do is spin, I'll stay stock and let the turbo do the work.
not if you go with a big enough turbo!!!

the big question of the hour, will this setup work in the F23?
-Ben
it's from a F23, so I'd hope it would work in a F23......

Big thanks to RyZ96 on getting the Vauxhall gear ratios. Just need to get the FDR's now.
Looks like the J-body trans has the best gearing over all, unless you go with the 4.17:1's from the HHR...... then the Vauxhall 2nd might make power more usable.
