"trac off" after build, Need a Guru on this one
Wednesday, August 06, 2008 12:13 AM
It was shifting fine for a while, but recently the traction off lights would come on, the idle RPM would go to 900, the 1-2 shift feels like the clutches are releasing, slipping, then grabbing all of a sudden, 2-3, 3-4 feel fine except the shift time/pressure feels stock, It's tuned with HPT and what's really puzzling me is I cant find any tables that would cause the idle RPM to rise.

So; WHY is my transmission thinking for itself and HOW?
And when the light is not on it shifts like a champ with a 3700 stall and yes I've tried flashing the whole ECU back to stock.

hmm. is it a auto? (may sound like a stupid question) i dont know if autos and manuals do the same thing but i bumped the IAT sensor on my intake tube and it was doing exactly what you said.

You know...... I read a thread about that. I honestly thought it was a joke. IAT and transmissions have nothing to do with each other IMO. Maybe I F-d the wires when I swapped.

well...what your opinion is and FACT are 2 different things. Having a bad IAT or disconnected IAT will make your auto trans behave abnormally.

If it was the 3-speed auto.....it wouldnt affect the tranny because its hydraulic. The 4 speed however is computer controlled and reacts to feedback from sensors.

I just did'nt expect such a close relationship between shift pressure and AIR TEMPERATURE!?!?!?! I mean the MAP.... sure. Anyone know why exactly GM did this

Anyways, while doing some data logging earlier the IAT dropped to -40. Hi-Ho Hi-ho to autozone I go.

Its not like they did that on purpose... its a sensor error, the sensor is used to help determine timing. When it throws a code, the ECU goes into limp mode, and uses the lowest timing values and sets the shift tables to the safest (although roughest shifting) values.

I thought limp mode was a rumor. I'll be searching on this but I'm a believer. Here's the problem, I replaced the sensor and it seems to be reading MY tables in PT 1-2, 2-3,3-4 shifts and WOT 2-3,3-4 shifts, however High throttle 1-2 is still sluggish and as described above. I've been to busy to do any logs, but I think it only happens in PE mode. Which sucks, because those are my favorite tables

Oh, and the only code I've been throwing lately has been SYSTEM LEAN, however it pops up randemly, and when I erase my DTC's with HPT the trac light will go off when I put it into gear, only for a few seconds though. Also in the DTC part of HPT it list a bunch of other things, like class 2 cummunucation error, etc. but they all say (history)(immature).

If you're throwing codes... then the trans will definitely go into limp mode... along with your fan coming on most likely (depends on the code).

If your line pressure is too high... the trac off light will come on, and stay on. I had this symptom with the Autotrans Interceptor set at 100% line pressure (but I liked it!)

Well..... I hav'nt done much logging, but. I erased my DTC's with a scanner rather than HPT and my Trac off light has not turned on since, UNLESS I put it gear selection 1 or 2 and the 1-2 shift feels like it should be. Firm, not hesitant. It is obaying the command of HPT. Any idea's? I'm leaning towards an electrical problem. I thought it might be a selenoid untill I discovered it would shift properly in 1-2. It's weird. I drive nicely now.
