a few tranny questions
Monday, August 18, 2008 11:00 PM
so now that i have an eoc engine, tranny, all that good jazz laying on the floor in my garage, i figured it would be the idea time for a few simple upgrades. what i want to know is, in the getrag f23 transmission from an ecotec (03 sunfire, i think. i beleive thats what he told me), is there a viable option for changing the fifth gear? or maybe the final drive? my goal is to be at lower rpms at cruising speeds, to save gas and such. i only want the 5th gear to change, not really any of the other ones, since those need to accelerate more quickly for racing and such (track car, i dont use 5th very often, it seems). please dont tell me its a bad idea to want this transmission set up this way, just let me know if its an option. I've read that the VUE and HHR use the same tranny geared differently, so could i take those gears?

and my other question is about the differential. what are all my options for a full LSD, and not an insert thing. i know budget and LSD arent a good combo, but i guess i would like ot find the cheapest not crappy lsd avalible.

last quesiton is a simple yes or no. does a slobalt ss tranny bolt up to the L61 sunfire ecotec?

thanks guys. im not much of a tranny guy, but im learning as i go. i spend more time working on making ponies and keeping the car stiff and stopping. thanks again for your help

Get all the parts you need in a pile, and drive the car into it.
They will find their way into the correct places.

5th gear is needed and if you want to save gas here is a few things that you should do

Car must contain original stock intake
Change spark plugs
Add fuel injector cleaner for a few times
Put a New Fuel Pump

My 1999 sunfire 2.2 500KM Full tank.
