I bought a 97 Cav 2.2 that needed a clutch so I paid a shop to install it. I got the car back and parked it for 3 months. Now I need to drive it cause I sold my other car and the clutch is acting up. When it is cold it works fine but after 5 mins it starts to slip. I got stuck in traffic the other day and after all the stop and go the clutch started smoking and had no grip. After it cooled down it was fine again but started slipping again after a few min. It has a new clutch and slave cylinder. I would take it back to the guy who did the job but he sold his shop after he did the job (he did other work for me and I have never had a problem). Is it just air in the system? Also the lines from the slave cylinder come out like an inch on the pressure line if I pull on it, is this normal?????? I really don't like doing tranny work and I am too broke right now to pay a shop. HELP!!!!!!

After reading alot of other peoples stories here I tried bleeding the clutch. After a half a liter of new brake fluid there are still air bubbles coming out but I ran out of fluid, strange thing is it works now and I can not make it slip with the 3rd gear test and I drove it 30 miles and it still seems good. Is it normal for these cars to have that much air in the system or do I have an air leak????

I dumped the Isuzu trans I had in the car after having similar issues to you... my slave cyl was fooked tho, so... I dunno.

The line is supposed to move in and out quite a bit... so that part is normal. If you've fixed it by bleeding it, I'd say it was air in the lines. Whether you've got a leak or not... only time will tell.
