4T40E Removal - Help!
Tuesday, August 12, 2008 7:00 PM
Sup all? I have my engine/tranny laying on the garage floor. I am trying to remove the 4T40E tranny so that I can replace the rear main seal and oil pan gasket. I have removed the top bolts, the side bolts, the three bolts on the flywheel, and the ones on the bracket near the passenger side axle. I have only been able to move the tranny a hair. Are there any tricks to getting it loose? Could I be missing a bolt somewhere? Please help!

theres a bolt that goes throught the oil pan with an aluminum spacer. i cant really remember exactly where its at, but you'll find it.

^^^ to add to that it is between the oil pan and the tranny. the 'bolt' or threaded stud has a torx bit head...then there is a nut holding the whole works together, take off the nut then use the torx and remove the stud. then you can just push the aluminum spacer out of the way.

its a pretty tight squeeze so take your time.

now i have never removed the 4t40e with the engine inside the car like what you are trying to do. i have HEARD you need to remove the subframe to get it to drop out so just bare that in mind. grab a haynes manual, they are a great help.
