Clutch diagnosis.

Hello, I'm new here, not by choice, but necessity. I hate these cars, im an import guy, but im a nice person so ive decided to help out a girl at my work.

She drives (not atm ) a 97 sunfire, and it has recently decided to break down.

I went and checked out this semi rusted, dirty green sunfire parked in front of her house. I can tell by the look of the car, she rarely if ever opens her hood. So i get to poking around and it seems that there is a leak in the hydraulic clutch system.

Amidst the rusted bolts (which are already making me cringe) I can see that the clutck fluid resevoir was empty and it's not leaking at the transmission. Check the Pedal, no resistance, but does not stick to the floor. The car wont go into gear. There was fluid collecting at the bottom of the transmision.

Can someone definitively tell me the problem? Or is further poking required? Should i bleed the clutch and see if it works? Where is the bleeder? Ive searched google and this site, gave up and had to join.

Jap crap doesnt rust? hmmmmmmmm Oh, thats right i forgot that they are superior to our reliable commuter cars in every way.

There is fluid on the tranny, but its not leaking at the tranny?? We cannot tell you exactly whats wrong, cuz there still are a few possibilities that it could be. I would start by filling the reservoir and finding the leak.

the line that goes from the Master to the slave, at the end that goes into the trans, you will see a bleed line, 8 mil wrench i think.

or, fill up the reservoir , and pump it a @!#$ load of times, worked for my 1st Gen DSM, W41 95 Z24, 92 GTZ, 02 Z24, and 04 GTO.
