in a 4t40e how much fluid is needed if you're just dropping the pan to change the gasket and filter?

Put 4 or 5 litres in then start the car. There is a little fluid level check plug on the tranny right beside where your passenger side cv axle goes into the tranny, the plug is 7/16 or 11mm. With the car in park and engine running the fluid should pour out of this hole when the fluid is full enough. Make sure the car is level and running, if you pull the plug out with the car shut off the fluid level is higher and will give you an incorrect reading. Dont worry about over filling the tranny it wont hurt it regardless of what anyone else tells you. If there is way too much fluid in the tranny it will just puke it out the vent. It is actually better to overfill these tranny's because they like to cavatate when going around corners(the pump sucks air instead of tranny fluid) not good!!
what kind is recommended for our cars? i think dexron 3? or is it syncromesh? and either way how is mobil 1 tranny fluid and does it mix with all other fluids?
thanks
