I am (trying to) fire up my freshly built 2200, and the starter is making NO flywheel contact??!! Here is a little more in depth info.
Engine is from a 98 auto, going into an 01 manual car. It has a Fidanza flywheel with Spec stage 3 clutch. Everything eyeballed up the same size as stock, and bolted together nicely. Clutch feels like it should, and starter (s) were removed and bench tested for proper operation.
I tried BOTH style starters for the donor engine year, both with the same result. Yes the flywheel is in the correct orientation.
Anyone run into anything like this, or have any suggestions.....I am out of ideas, and REALLY dont want to have to tear everything back down to fix anything flywheel related....
Any help is REALLY appretiated.
Did you shim the starter? If that doesnt work i would look inside with the starter and flywheel installed and see whats preventing them from contacting.
The starter has NO shims right now, so it is up as high as possible. I have the dust cover off now, so I can see everything as clearly as possible, but was to pi$$ed to look at it last night. I intend to do some more investigation tonight. I was hoping someone had a similar problem and solution....
Is the starter trying to make flywheel contact? 2 things should happen, the gear should kick out and then the shaft should spin. After you let go of the key it retracts. If that's what's happening, it's more likely an electrical issue.
Actually I solved the problem this morning. I bought a GM starter off an org member the other day....worked perfectly....I guess I got 2 bad starters from the parts store....(thanks pep boys)....I am SOOO glad I didn't have to tear the tranny off to change the flywheel....
Thanks for all the help.
