I was just wondering since im in the process of building up my tranny and these are one of the weakpoints of it, can these things be taken out and cyrotreated to be stronger? Does someone sell aftermarket ones for the 4T40? Whats my best option here for beefing these input output shafts?.
Im trying to do all this ONE time at the same time lol..
Thanks for any help.

we also need to find out if parts from the 4t65e are interchangable with the 4t40e.
there are some serious parts made for the 4t65 and if things are interchangable then we could also put those parts in ours to help out
how fast are you running ?
i'm running 12's on street tires on used 95 gram am axels .
they have been on there for 2 years and over 30 000 km
automatic trannys are realy not abusive as manual trannys due to the shock loading that manuals preduce with shifting and launch. the auto trannys keep load on them so its not like hitting them with a hammer each shift.
i doubt that you will have a lot of problems the axels are almost the same size as the 4t65 will they fit in a 4t40 .. i believe the out put shaft on the drivers side will work ... but its exactly the same thing. the passenger side i believe on the newer 4t40's have a weird bearing on the 2002 + modles .
but just go with what you got till you have problems and then change them .
well with the power im gonna be making, i know for a fact stock axles will not hold. im not gonna skimp on anything and i know david wont either. im doing everything in my power to make this tranny hold over 600hp. with me going all out gmpp eco build and gonna run a gt37r t67 h.o. turbo. my low boost setting of 15psi will be past 12's and into the 11's im hoping.
im gonna do everything i can to help out the 4t40 crowd and i know david is right there with me on this one
anything that makes it stronger i will use
More 4T45E parts fit in the 4t40E....than the 4T65E.
I do not have a list, but there are more performance parts for the 4T45E than the 4T40E.

was about to suggest the same thing... weird.
i know the 4t45e has slightly differnt things from the 4t40. the final drive ratios are different, etc. i wonder if any of the other transmissions will bolt up... like the 6t40 and 6t60? anyone know if the patterns are the same?

While your at it you should look into getting the planetary gear set, ring gears, and sun gears treated.
^^Will do man, imma send them all my stuff pretty much. I need 28.5 lbs for the minimum order. So ill throw in the guts of the tranny.

man im going not as extreme as bonnett or WHITECAVY but i will be close with mine as well
woot for more tranny info
RIP JESSE GERARD.....Youll always be in my thoughts and prayers...

well unless
Meziere is making something custom, i cannot find anything for a 4t40E on their site.
but damn, i want to hear more
*drools* a billet light-weight flex plate would give me wood.
wow those guy make water pumps to, i wonder if they could make us (ld9) an electric water pump. that would be awesome-less loss from it dragging the timing chain

i know they used to make a flex plate for the 4t40e, but im not sure about now and also they make it for the 4t65e and im gonna see if it is interchangable with the 4t40e. also i think people can make custom lightweight ones also
well, if they used to make one, they should still have the tooling to do a few more. its not a huge company so i'll bet they would be willing to spit out some more for us
Hey the stock flex plate is light enough I believe.. I think its less than 9 lbs, any lighter than that wouldnt be worth it I think.. I remember back in the day when I thought I needed a flywheel\flexplate for my auto, and boy was I wrong lol.. And people on here were telling me that flywheels were only for manuals(duh) but regardless our auto flexplates are light enough..
Now I could see if we wanted to make a billet aluminum one.. I would go that route
