i heard there's a rumor that u can remove the auto tranny without removing the whole engine?

my intention is to buy and install the team green lsd into my auto, and i want to find the easiest way to install it (even if its uncomfortable).

Yeah, you can, you just need to drop the sub frame off.

hmmmm, im going to say dropping the subframe would be easier then removing the entire engine. it still would def. be a project, but in the long run i bet its easier.

you do NOT need to remove the subframe to get the Tranny out of the car. at least with my 2.2 3spd auto. but the trans mounting is the same in all. u just need one of those things that hold your motor from above. and then you need a trany jack. those trannys are heavier than hell if your doing it on a shop floor. but it can be done EASILY. i did it 2 times.took me about 3 hours out and back in

Are you doing a 5 speed swap or what because I have an auto (4to4e) with a 2.2 and I want to either do a 5 speed swap or a whole 5 speed z24 swap (which would be really sweet)!!

lol yeah but mines not in the car so it wouldn't include anything related to removing the transmission part of the deal. ...and ...cough cough... Viper will be helping me out on that install

I'm betting you can pop the CV joints.disconnect the trans from the motor and remove the trans mount, and lift the large section out with a lift. it IS really heavy. lift the car and start pulling the guts out.

buuutt....since I've never done it I will have wait and see how much room there is when I do mine to even see if that is a possibility.

The 4 speed is quite a bit bigger than the 3 speed.... tranny case size wise. I don't see how you'd get it out without dropping the subframe.... it's not like the 5 speed, where you can cut the front tab off the subframe to clear it. The case is massive on the 4T40E.

^^ I thought so to, but Trey(Trd cav fire) dropped his 4 speed from the 95 Z that he bought off of Ian.. He said he just lowered it from the back(rack) and the struts and didnt have to take it completely off.. He just let it hang lol
