trans keeps slippin, slippin, splippin away

Just looking for ideas on what this may be and how to fix it. I have the 4t40e and when its gets past 195 on the water temp gauge the trans will sometimes slip excessively when put back into gear, such as from park to drive or reverse to drive. It usually does this for up to 5 second and by then i usually have the car around 4-5k and the engages full force and slams kinda like a neutral drop. It did this before the shift plus install and only when excessively hot like after sitting in a parking lot idling for a long time. I know i need to change the fluid but do you think there is more work i can do to solve this issue while i ahve at least a little bit inside the trans? It kinda seems like something electrical but i cant be sure, since it engages so hard, i figured if it was mechinical it would engage lots softer.

Your clutch packs are probably shot, I'd just pick up a new transmission, it would be cheaper.
