ok a couple days ago my transmission was fine...yesterday i started it up and started driving and im hearing this sound coming from the left side of the car where the short cv shaft is...i was thinking it could be that...but i jacked it up and started my car and put it in gear and let the wheel spin and it was spinning straight...when its up in the air i in neutral with the car off and i turn the wheel there is the sound....a sound coming like it sounds from the differenental...the sound is like a quiet knocking sound...and it only makes it when i am coasting and the slower i coast down to the slower it knocks or ticks...but when im accelerating or giving it the slightest bit of gas it doesnt make the sound..i was thinking it had to be something to do with the differental....does anyone know what it could be....help would be awesome and if i could get any imput or if i need to describe it better i could do that
thanks

My thoughts revolve around sounds coming from the clutch and its components.
My $.02
Sounds like to me its a CV joint in your axle and i highly doubt a clutch would make sounds like that.
on my blazer the rear end was going out of it and it made a howling sound and i fixed that...it sounds similiar to that sound except its coming from the the front left....i believe its the differential but idk im driving it until it goes out then i'll deal what it is.......
its not a wheel bearing because otherwise when you jack the car up it had play in the wheel and its tight there idk just driving it until its out..found a new transmission out of a sunfire that is in good condition with 100K i just bought for 65 dollars...
its all good
The only issue with the Isuzu in my 98 was the spider and pinion gears destroyed themselves. made the same kinds of sounds and conditions as you stated. Put a new trans in and called it good. Just a fore warning though. To buy a new Isuzu you will probably shell out about what the car is worth.
i got a new transmission for 65 bux that i will put in it so its all good
thats wierd cause mine is doing the exact same thing right now. im thinking the ring gear. ill let you know when i get it apart.
yeah im about ready to pull mine apart...its new to me but it was used...came out of a sunfire that is good...shifts good and so are the syncros..2nd and 3rd are bad on mine now so it will be an improvement
Pay close attention to the spider and pinion gears in the diff. I had a spare trans that was going to go in my 98 until I took it apart.
that was when i decided to get a new trans from GM.
