Anyone have a link or instructions on disabling or replacing the TCC solenoid on a 98 Cav with the 4t40e auto trans?

Biggsz24, what problems are you having?
Basically at slower speeds it sounds as if the trans is bogging down, you can hear until I give it a little gas
then its fine. There was another thread about this but it was a 3spd.,i read the links for a DIY fix but again it was for a 3spd.

mine is different, i just sometimes get a shutter at highway speeds and a code P1887 which means TCC release switch circuit. It only happens from time to time and has gotten less since the B&M shiftplus. Best of luck in whatever you have to do.
I have the shiftplus as well but only CEL is from the EGR delete and it runs fine at highway speeds, just slow speeds, guess I'll have to research, thanks

i got the egr delete CEL too, but hope to have that fixed soon. let me know what ya dig up and thanks
Is that for the 4t40e?Wow,looks simple enough.thanks very much

You can tap into the TCC Solenoid circuit by taking the brown wire going into the tranny via the main harness at the front of the car.
Installing a single pole, single throw switch will turn on or off the TCC Solenoid as needed.
I've had the same problems with getting off of the highway, come to a stop, and the car died because the TCC did not unlock. By not unlocking, you're basically staying in 4th gear with a direct hookup to the engine, hence the dying of your engine.
So with the switch tied into the TCC, I would then hit the switch just before gettting off of the highway, releasing the TCC with full line pressure, ensuring that the TCC solenoid would disengage.
It did and worked wonderfully.
Around town, if I started to experience the same TCC lockup, would just switch off the TCC Solenoid signal and never a problem. The tranny would not lock up but never had issues with the exception of the CEL.
By also doing this for about a couple of months, I now have no problems with the tranny and has been working great again.
Just another way to keep from having to dig into the actual tranny itself while being able to continue to drive your car.

So can I just cut the wire and permantly disable it that way?I could have other issues as well, just seems to kinda chug if I am slowing down to a slow speed like 20-25mph and the rpm does a 100-300 spike

I wouldn't suggest that if it's not causing the problem. Then you'd have the situation of trying to solder the wire back together again in a very confined area.
Have you experienced any cel's that state the TCC is the problem?
Put a switch on it at least.
With the switch, you still have capability to have the TCC working when it does.
You will get a cel with the TCC turned off and personally, never kept mine off enough to really see what happens with it off on a continuous situation.
Good luck with it.

hey james on a side note... ive always wondered about what to do with my autotrans interceptor and the convertor adjustment. can u shed some light on what would be a good setting for bummin around town and still wanting to get into every once n awhile?
and isnt it true that you can use hp tuners and tweak the lockup to come on in 3rd gear to?? or would that even help... or???
thanks.
Zyaaa, on the TCC adjustment, I've kept mine on full since i've owned it.
The TCC never locks up until 4th gear and when it does, acts like another gear.
So this effectively has given me that "virtual 5th gear".
I've never had it any other way with the AutoTrans so not sure on seeing what it will do with it in other settings.
I pretty much don't mess with something that works.
On the HPT, not sure on that either. I don't have HPT and will probably go with the MegaSquirt when it's all said and done with.
With my many years in electronics, I'm building my own MS setup by buying the kit. I'll also be rewiring whatever it takes to hook everything up too. I think I'll have a little more versatility with the MS than what I can get with the HPT.

Yeah I wonder if having the ShiftPlus has something to do with it.I was watching it today while driving and it kinda chugs a little at speeds under 20 and the rpm's at about 800 and Im in first gear right before it shifts into second.

does the TCC lock only while cruising or can you get it to lock up while accelerating? does this switch only disable the TCC?
Listen F***ers. FASTERTHANAHONDA is a joke because I WORK FOR HONDA. I'll talk @!#$ about Fords to, that doesn't mean I can beat a 12 second mustang.
