shifting problem

hi, i am new to this site. I got a 01 z24 and it is a 5speed. I have did some searching on these but i had some questions. My problem is when i am at a stop and try to go to first, some times it does not want to go. It is like blocked or someting. I know usally if the synco is out it will grind but my doesent even grind it just will not go. But i found if i go to 2 then back up to 1st it will go in. I think it might be the 1st&2ed shift fork. What do you guys think? How much are they and are they very hard to replace? Also are these 5speeds any good? handel power well?

It is normal. Go to second gear first then go to first. Also swithcing to different fluid can help. Hurst synthec fluid works nicely.

sounds like your fluid has had it. do a change and it should help.

Fluid? A Manual uses fluid? or do you mean gear oil? And why would that make a difference?

yea the manual only holds like 1.8 quarts of gear fluid. I don't think that would do much, but i will change it anyways. But you shure it is normal? Because i drove other z24's and you did not have to go to 2ed first. I mean it is almost every single time i take off i have to go to 2ed first because it just does not want to go in. I think i will bleed the clutch and change the gear oil and see what that does. But has any one else had this problem? I hear it could be a shift fork, but that is in the housing and thats a pain.

It does not use gear oil, but ATF. Yes it can make a difference as well.
