VSS Compatability (Getrag F23)

Alright, so I've got the Isuzu to Getrag swap complete, but apparently the trans setup I purchased did not include the Getrag VSS (speed sensor). It looks like I'm going to be flying out Sunday morning to get my car, and it's a 12-14 hour drive back home, so an operational speedometer would be kinda cool.

With that said, just so I'm 10000% clear and certain about this: The VSS can come from any Getrag F23-equipped J-Body (any 2000 to 2005 5-Speed)?

On that note:

Does anybody happen to have that part number handy?
Is there anybody in western Canada that has one of these kicking around and is willing to part with it?

I basically have to have the part by Saturday morning at the latest, so it's either buy new, or have it express shipped (which sucks, as if I had a couple more days and some time off of work, I'm pretty sure I could wrangle one from a wreckers for $5 or $10, but that's just not an option right now...)

As usual, thanks for the input.

They are cheap, find a local dealer and grab one. They are easily installed. Also, do NOT drive the vehicle without that sensor in there.

I guess I should clarify that it's the "male" end that I need. The "female" receptacle is already in the transmission, but the current original plug from my '97 does not plug into the Getrag-side input.

Taking the clarification one step further, as apparently I should read crap before I post it, I don't need the sensor, I need the plug (connector).

Alright, cool. If they're cheap then I might just have to wait until I'm on the island and pick one up there (that would be the only free time I would have from now until then to get to a dealer or parts store).

I just remembered... if it looks like this:

I have 1 extra from my box of connectors when I did the new wiring harness on my car.

I just need to solder some leads on it (all I have is yellow and blue wire for it, but I'll keep the yellow one on the right pin) and I can mail it to you...

Alright, so apparently the dealers in my town are, how should I put this, "not reliable".

I phoned around and nobody could give me an availability, a part number or a price. So, now that I can't get it through the dealer, I'm pretty much F-ed.

If anyone has the GM part number, that would help greatly when trying to communicate with the GM parts department. Kardain has supplied us with the Delphi part number (12162195), and now I just need for that to be "translated" into GM-speak.

Thanks again.

I'm showing that its the same plug as the coolant temp sensor plug, so if all else fails, you may have to sacrifice that sensor for your speedo.

Not sure how to get it translated over to GM-speak (it should be the same part # though...)

Thank you greatly for the time and info Kardain,

Yeah, one of the members from BCJbody said he thought the same thing about the coolant temp connector (that he thought they are the same plug). Once again then, for the purpose of absolute clarification, this ECT plug can be pulled from any 3rd Gen J-Body, regardless of make or model (as in, they are all the same connector)?

I might just park my GF's SF for the weekend and rob the one off of her car (being that the ECT relays some A/F, timing and EGR values to the PCM).

Thanks again Kardain
.

If its the 99 listed in your reg, per my service manual, its the same one, same part # even.

Nope... That sensor is not the issue.

I have no plug to plug into the VSS sensor as the Isuzu-based connector is not compatible with my new Getrag VSS sensor.

Yeah, it's the '99, and thanks again for the information.

My buddy out on the Island found a connector off a Getrag this afternoon at the wreckers and they gave it to him for free. So, it would appear as though this issue has been solved (until I get out there tomorrow and find out that something else is wrong, and with my luck right now, I shouldn't even joke about something like that, LOL)

Thanks to everyone for their time.
