Getrag to Isuzu
Sunday, August 05, 2007 11:01 PM
Ok I know what you might be thinking. Why would you want to go from a Getrag to an Isuzu. Well here is
my dilemma. My car recently spun a rod bearing. I have a 96 with a 2.2. Whilst not having a car, my job
decided to let me go since i didnt have "reliable transportation".

I dont have the money to get the block rebuilt, so my friend is fixing to do a 3.4 swap into his 00 Sunfire.
He told me that if i wanted it I could have the motor and computer out of his car. That would be all fine
and dandy but I cant use it can I?

Here is my question, I know that there is a way to get the Getrag mounted to an older motor, but is there
a way to get an Isuzu bolted up to a newer motor without much of a cost?

Motors are the same, regardless of transmission, just remember to put the isuzu flywheel on and you'll be just fine.

Ok if it uses a different Flywheel, then that means they are balanced different. And to my knowledge they are balanced with their specific harmonic balancer to reduce vibrations. So if they are different flywheels then that means they are different HBs and thus the engine balance will be off right? or wrong?

wrong..same pulley..youll also have to change the mounts, and weld new ones on your car, shift cables, shifter assemby..basically..save up and get the getrag..its retarded to do that work for a crappier tranny to save a few bucks..phil

A 1996 2.2 came with an Isuzu. Getrags come from 2000+, so I think you actually be going from an Isuzu to a Getrag.

Nothing, the 2000+ motor is exactly the same as the 98-99. You don't have to worry about the transmission side of it, like I said, engines aren't auto or manual, isuzu or getrag, just the transmissions are. You will NOT have to worry about the transmission side, just make sure you use the isuzu flywheel and you will be just fine.

He's going to have to do some rewiring for the motor, since his 96 came with the 2.2, and the 2000 has a 2200
