4T40E max torque

I have an 05 Cavalier, and want to put about 9 PSI of boost through it. Will the factory automatic hold up to this? I have to wait about 6 months before i can install my 4T65E dues to how exspensive it is and was wondering if and how long the stock transmission can last.

There are to many variables to say....it will last this long...
Whats your trans temps....
Do you have a shift improver of some kind....
If need be a trans cooler....
Mileage.....
It should be fine, but it all depends on how everything is working together...

If you don't beat the snot out of it i don't see any reason why it wont last. But i would add a trans cooler if you don't have one already.

Mine is still operating fine after 40,000 normal miles and 20,000 Turbo'd miles - and I dyno'd 243 hp and 236 tq on the stock trans with a Granatelli Transtuner only. Not saying this will be the case for you too, but to me, its proof of its strength.

For every 20-degrees you drop your tranny temp, you double the life of it. If you REALLY wanna make it last, you should do the filter change, add the cooler, switch her over to full synthetic and maybe install a shift kit. Call it preventative maintenance.

I'm doing the 4t65E swap as well...good choice. But I might wait and see what the 40E can really take, power-wise. Call it curiosity!! We put a 3,400 stall in her, though--I think she'll die quicker than I think...lol

Lol...well, the stall I'm using actually came out of Ryan's old 4T60E (yep--it fits). We're making his '96 Prix RWD so he didn't need it anymore, obviously. We use a local guy exclusively for the work and he re-stalled it (higher) for me. I believe the old setup was around a 3,200. It's definitely weird driving a car with that high a stall.

Get in touch with me if you want to be set up with his info--email me at Chris@RDFabs.Com
