Just wondering (and I swear I've seen it mentioned here before), has anyone ever replaced the rubber hose from the clutch fluid reservoir to the master cylinder with a braided stainless line? Seems to me from what I know it'd be beneficial - help firm up the clutch pedal - but I'm not sure what parts would be needed (connectors for the ends, basically, although I'm not sure what size of hose would be needed either, -4, -6, -8 AN...). I'm having a clutch and flywheel put in soon, so I thought maybe it would be a good added touch.
So yeah...anyone here done this? I should mention it's for the Isuzu but I don't know if that'll matter. Summit has
this listed, -6 AN, 1 1/2 feet, $8.69. Is that the right size and long enough? And then what sorts of connectors would I need? I'm generally bad at guessing that sort of thing. If someone posted how to do this already, could someone direct me that way as I've searched everything I could think of in this forum to try to find it.
Never heard of it. I also do not think it would make a difference. Is this for a 2000+ car? If so GM re-designed the clutch master cylinder in 05. It has pressure line going from the master cylinder to the tranny (with a metal section in the middle). That might make a difference, but since having it I have not noticed any. Feels the same.

Never heard of it either...

It's become common in the Scion world, among other places. Same principle as braided stainless brake lines: better pedal feel, part longevity, heat tolerance (looks? dunno if it's visible underhood on a Cavalier or not).

I would like one, the 03+ have problems with the hose rubbing on he platic bracket that holds the big ass cluster of wiring, over time it cuts through the hose

Agreed, not the best routing for the clutch line.

Can you show a picture? Never seen that. Are you saying the fluid reservoir line, or the line running from the clutch master to the tranny?
Here is some pictures of the new design master cylinder. With tougher stronger lines.
On a J a braided line on the fluid reservoir line would not make a difference on the pedal feel.
Also this new design master comes pre-filled with fluid.

watching this... haven't had problems with my clutch line routing, but it could be because my car is a hybrid
john, ur pics are red x's
hmm that doesnt look like the one i have for my swap...is it recommended to get this style?? and how much was it? phil
think Ben payed around $80 at the dealer!
They list for $140, but I got mine for $84. From research I have done the old style master could cause the TOB to go bad. I know a guy who just had this TOB and master go bad after only being 2 years old on a stock clutch.
FU Tuning
Heh...yeah, if the old master cylinder was known to make the TOB go bad, that could be exactly what happened in my case. I wonder if simply upgrading that rubber line would help? I'd hate to get the new clutch, flywheel, and TOB/slave in there and then not long down the road, have it take a poo on me again. I also hate not having a car to drive though either - riding the bike (the kind you pedal, not the powered one) everywhere really sucks, especially on days where it decides to pour down rain when you have to get to work. So the longer I have to go without a car, the more it sucks - although they flywheel was shipped to the wrong address already (my mistake) so it will be a while yet at least before it gets to me...
I'm bringing this back from the dead.
do you have a p/n for this? I think its about time I did the master cylinder on the skwirl seeing as mine is 120,000miles and my line has developed somewhat of a leak.
I'll most likely stop at the dealer on the way home.
This comes with the master cylinder and the clutch fluid reservoir attached already?
P/N#24233064, and yes it is a complete unit. It comes pre-filled.

thanks a lot John for the quick response
+2 if we had rep points
they gave me a complete different p/n when i asked them for the clutch hydrolic line. I put it in on gmpartsdirect and it said it had a new part # and don't think it said the same thing for me.
In fact this is what they gave me. Getrag Clutch Hose - P/N 89058660
Interesting. PJ, when you get yours can you make sure its still what John posted up?
will do. I ordered it from my local dealer, picking it up tomorrow.
pics to follow.
I put the number in GMPdirect and it came up as "Hydraulic Clutch Main Cylinder/Rod"
hopefully its the whole assembly. If not, I'll be straightening it out at the dealer tomorrow.

The part number I posted if the whole clutch master cylinder, not just a line. This is the same part number that I used to order mine which is in the picture in this post.

I was not aware you could order just the line, and not a whole unit.
FU Tuning
its all good I'd rather have the whole unit anyways.
thanks again John
So that number is for the line and master cylinder? If so, i am going to be happy camper. I was going to buy them separate. I also looked at my hydrolic line on my 04 sunfire and looks nothing like the one above. But isn't rubbing on anything, i made sure of that.
im with Cody any updates?im about to get a new clutch in a few days...
later,james
so will this 2005 cavalier clutch master cylinder hook up to my spec stage +3 clutch?
thanks,james
This should be for the getrag transmission, so yes i would assume so.
