friend of mine has a 99 z24 (auto), it has the long, stock shift lever. is there any way to cut it down?

u cut the metal shaft but dont cut the middle plastic, then u cut the plastic down the same amount u did the metal, and it works fine, i did it on both my z's untill i swapped to 5speed. i even have the shifter in my trunk atm im givin it to a buddie of mine
