driving an 01 fire gt and I have a few problems with my tranny. After I drive home from like an hour and a half and I get off the highway my tranny will start to kick big time from 1st to 2nd and then from 2nd to 3rd. anyone know whats up with that??
Are you throwing codes?
Sometimes the speed sensor (which is a magnet) gets gunked up with metal files/trans fluid sludge and causes that problem. If you open it up and clean it out and put new fluid in sometimes it fixes that problem.....but as my mechanic said, it means 'your tranny is on the way out'
I just lost my 4t40e it was doing the same thing if you get a code which you should it will say tcc circuit stuck open
its not the tcc solenoid dont replace it nor is it the torque converter clutch (located inside the torque converter) there is a steel valve in your aluminum valve body that oscilates really fast. over time the valve bore wears out causing the valve to stick.
I was quoted 1500.00 to repair it and 3k to replace it with a rebuilt
I just cant drive 55
sorry I know nothing about trannys. I just know, when I press that gas from a stop and the car kicks/jolts to 2nd and then does the same thing but with less force going into 3rd but never does it going to 4th.
When you say kick are you referring to a hard shift..?
Idk what to call it just the car shifts at a higher rpm the it normally does. It feels like something hit my car and makes a banging sound and the car just bounces forward idk how to describe it.
One of the first things to check is the transmission fluid of course. Make sure its up to its proper operating level, then inspect the color of it, should be light red. If in question just get a new bottle and compare colors.
What is the trans fluid level at ? Whyat is the fluid's color and condition?

Mine threw a code and it was the tcc solenoid stuck open. I had a guy at Advance Auto read the code with a scanner. So any idea what I should do? According to this I could have a bigger problem. Thanks in advance.
