I put the front of my 2002 Sunfire on blocks today and found out that when my car is in first gear, the driver's side tire barely moves unless I accelerate and runthrough the gears. The passenger side continues to roll freely in first. I have came to the conculsion that my CV shaft on the DS may not be catching. What do u guys think.

the cavalier's dont have LSD's so all the power goes to one wheel and one wheel alone
1998 Chevrolet Cavalier
5-spd
Sounds normal to me.
Both wheels dont get power until you get moving. This is due to torque steer, unequal axle lenghts will cause a pull from a dead stop, especially if you nail it, to prevtent this, one wheel is not powered until you get moving.
- 2004 Cavalier - 124k, owned since new
open diff will cause that. its normal
and it's "cv joint" "half shaft"
My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again
wow, First of all your CV shafts car held in by splines and bolts, Secondly if they "catch" then they are probably bad.. or you have tranny problems..

...what?
torque steer is the result of an open differential, and unequal axle lengths not the CAUSE of it.
in an open differential, both wheels get equivelent power until one is unloaded
for example, being jacked up, spinning due to power, or slipping on rain or ice.
if you have a problem with an axle not.. uh.. 'grabbing' your car wouldn't move. since that axle is severed, and can spin completely free, all the power from the engine will go to the broken axle and you'll sit still even with the car in gear and revving it up. Believe me, I know...
I appreciate the insight guys!! I have driven the car since then and the clutch blew out. SO Im getting it replaced. I posted antoher topic about which clutch kit to buy. Check it out.
