Auto tranny

This is probably a stupid question to ask, but I'm curious now.... When driving an car with an auto tranny, since it shifts on it's own, can you just keep the accelerator down and let it shift when "flooring it" or is it better to let off the throttle, let it shift, and then hit it again? Someone said something earlier today about it and now I'm curious. I figure since it's auto trans it shifts on its own and I don't need to worry about backing off the throttle. Am I wrong in this? If I am, what do I need to do to fix that? What RPM do I need to get to before I hit the throttle again?

Ok. That's what I thought. I don't remember where it was I read that.... I must have read it wrong. I didn't think I had to let off.... It ran just fine even if I didn't
