Grar. I finally got the Z back together and drivable... And it lasted about two hundred miles.
I was on my way back to my dad's to change the driver's side CV halfshaft... And while turning the car around, I heard a pop noise (not unlike a CV letting go). Surprise. Well, really, the only surprise was that the CV lasted long enough to let go at a rather opportune moment like that.
However, I lost my ability to shift into any gears. No park, reverse, drive... Nada. If I try to put the car into park with the engine running, I get a rather nasty click/grind noise... Almost like when I learned how to drive a stick and missed second. It'll still roll freely. It doesn't make the noise if the motor's off, but the car still rolls.
With the car in drive, it revs up to around 2k, and the speedo registers 30-35mph, but nothing gets to the drive wheels. I changed the CV anyway, since it was in the driveway and not going anywhere... No change. (Not that I thought it would, but strange things tend to happen with this car. It's cursed.)
Any ideas?
Weird thought, check the passenger side axle. If the speedo in registering, the diff is turning. And to avoid the grinding noise, shut the engine off with the trans in drive, then put it in park with the engine off
Lifes too short to drink cheap beer.
Aye, I've tried putting it in park with the engine off, but it still doesn't engage. All she's got is neutral. I'll try pulling the passenger side axle again (It had been done two or three days prior) and checking everything out.
