shifting hard w/B&M Shiftplus
Friday, December 29, 2006 11:59 AM
i just installed the Shiftplus and it really seems to shift hard on Stage 1 even going in reverse ,braking to a complete stop and shifting into drive. Now i know if your trans is not in tip-top shape like mine it may not be a good thing to have this installed, anybody experience this or any suggestions?

Well how bad was this trans before you put it in? It will kill it faster if it was already on its way out.

How much is it average for a new tranny for an 03+ J?

i had to put some lucas in it for the slippage but on the bm ,stage 1 seems to shift harder than stage2 and it clunks when you put it in gear from park to drive some say its supposed to do that i like the firmness and how much quicker it shifts but not the clunking

So why not just leave it off until you actually need it? There's no sense or point in leaving it in 1 anyway.

Geez this isn't an old thread!and ask anyone here that has it,1 is fine for daily driving and on certain year cavs in order to switch from 1 over to 2 you have to shut the car off then switch the stage. And keeping it on helps increase the lifespan a little for the bands in your trans

To eliminate the clunking, need a solid engine mount -- the engine rolls like hell if youre mounts are stock (especially if theyre worn) and the shift+ is on when you change gears.

seems to but I'm putting in the prothane lower and trans mounts so that should help with more hp to the wheels not to mention the aem alt. pulley and alum. underdrive pulley.

If it's harder in 1st stage than in 2nd, I strongly believe that you have used the wrong red/black wire when installing the Shift+

With my car I can change stages while it's driving and I have no problems.

Right ,the paper that came with the ShiftPlus stated something like 97 and up cavs you have to turn the ignition off to change stages ,I did the install correctly according to the install pics here on the org.when you could get those pics to work, but I just spliced and elect. taped instead of doing it the right way and soldering the wires so I could just have a loose connection.I have tried to change stages while driving and it seemed to make no difference, but however it still works and does it's job.

i have a 2002 cav and you have to shut the car off for it to work, and mine does shift really hard going into drive when i have it on stage one or stage two, but just don't stop when shiffting it down in to drive, because if you stop in neutral, the rpms rise the the engagment is much rougher, so if you just take it out of park and put it right to drive it isn't to bad.

shiftplus increases your line pressure of the trans which is why its gonna shift hard. and like said after you get those mounts in it wont clunk anymore. stock mounts will allow the motor and trans to flex like hell and clunk.
