I first have to say I hate the 2.4 trannies with a passion, I put one in my GFs 1996 LS vert and it came out of a 1997 Grand am GT. I replaced the output shaft seal because it was leaking terribly but still cant seem to keep fluid in the damn thing.
Not only does it leak somewhere it shifts like $hit. Could the linkages be bad? The car has 131K on it and has always shifted crappily. Do shift linkages go bad, are 2.2 and 2.4 linkages the same?
I Put a B&M short throw in the car to help it out which it did a little but it still shifts like ass.
Next problem is the damn clutch wont stay pressurized because of the quick disconnect to the slave (I think, the one in the tranny). I hear there is an 0 ring in there that tends to go bad, anyone have a part number or anything for it?
So current problems -
Leaks tranny fluid from God knows where
Shifts like ass
hard to go into reverse first and fith kinda.
I have to put clutch fluid in it every week.
2.4 Trannies suck.
I am very frustrated like this and really dont have time to fix it so I have been band aiding it by just filling the clutch fluid and on occasion the trans fluid. Nothing is working, please help nothing makes sence on this. And why is the slave in the tranny? Stupid huh?

I hate these damn things too, I am trying to save up for and research a tranny swap. New Getrag's are easy to find here for $500. Old NVGT-550s are scarce, I would rather swap to it, but I cannot find any 5 speed from a 93-94 2.3L HO. I am not sure if they come in the 2.3 LO as well. If i can get NVG, i can keep my stock flywheel and not have to worry about buying a 2000+flywheel and all the bolts ect., shifter, shift cables, clutch and all that junk needed for the new getrag swap. The NVGt550 just seems so easy, i just can't find one. -tear-
My problem includes a messed up, almost silent thumping when decellerating in third gear only. I can only hear it when i have my fan off, and music off. It is only third gear. Also, it has always made weird noises in reverse.
I have a HO tranny for my car (dual mount) but I need this problem fixed now. I have been reading tons of post and I am thinking maybe bad shift linkages? Are the two different, anyone have part numbers, which one controls 1,3,5, and which one does 2,4,R?
