swapping "old" getrag into 98z

Howdy fellas,

Just curious,

I noticed the 94 beretta gtz's had the getrag trannsmissions. The ones with the 2.3 HO motor. I was wondering if thta would bolt up to the LD9 motors. Just wondering cause anything would be better then the izuzu lol. The reason im asking is the new getrag you have to weld the new mount on. which isnt hard but more work then anyone would perfer to do. Just wondering if the getrag out of the old berettas would have the same mounting for the tranny. Let me know if anyone has info on it!! thanks ,

Tom A

Is this the same trans in a 92 or so grand am Se with a 2.3l? I found one of these and looks like my trans, even starter is in the same location, just seems to have a way different slave cylinder throwout bearing.
This trans possible in a 97 sunfire with 2.4L?

Ian:

All depends on which 2.3L it is. Is it a SOHC, DOHC - Standard or DOHC - High Output? All three will fit, but the only one that would be an "upgrade" would be the HO variant.

would that getrag also hook up to the 2.4L twin cam. my izuzu tranny has broke 3 times in the past 2 years, and it just broke. i dont want to keep fixing it. so please tell me that it will. please.

i have no clue how to tell the difference. should HO be on the coil cover or what? All I know is the car is a 2.3L Grand Am SE.

Search up the NVG swap in this forum. The transmission you want came on 93-94 Grand Am HO's, Beretta GTZ's, Achieva SCX's and some minivans. (Montana I believe)... You want the version with the internal slave cylinder....

An H.O motor says "High Output" on the IDI cover if it is still there...

i think that if the pistons have valves pocket in them, its the HO version...

8th digit in the vin will be "A" ..that means its an HO ..if its a "D" then its an LO and you dont want that tranny..the HO getrag is totally worth it
